Beer Review

Le Canapaie is a 5% alcohol/volume Blonde Ale made by Le Canapaie in Perugia, Italy. Le Canapaie is a raw hemp beer made from the cannabis plant. Italy's cannabis market is slowly starting to take off, and shops are now selling CBD products in-store. I stopped by a place called 'The Green Bag' in Rome to see what kind of products they had to offer. The Green Bag sold cannabis flower with CBD contents that ranged from 5 to 12%. None of the THC levels were over 1%, therefore the bud lacks the psychoactive effect that most users seek. They sold pasta and bagels made with hemp flour as well as different tea mixes. I tried a bottle of Le Canapaie, which is a light beer made with Hemp. It doesn't taste much different than an ordinary European style light beer, but there is a subtle taste of Cannabis which made it enjoyable.

The Bottle

The Le Canapaie Birra 3 Fiori is served in a 12oz glass bottle. The front of the label features a beautiful cannabis plant along with the name Le Canapaie and the phrase "Birra al Fiori di Canapa" which means "Beer made with Cannabis Flowers”. Below is a card that was sitting on a table inside of the Green Bag. It looks like Le Canapaie sells multiple types of Cannabis beers. This one was called Birra 3 Fiori and looks to be a lot lighter than the other brew featured.

The Beer

I enjoyed two bottles of Le Canapaie Birra 3 Fiori with my friend Sarah before heading to dinner. It was a light and refreshing beer. Crisp and dry on the palate. We poured the beers into some cups and could see that it was a really light golden color. It has a hemp floral aroma that combines with barley on the nose. There is no THC in this beer, so it does not get you high, but after drinking a few you will definitely feel the buzz from the 5% alcohol content. Overall, it was a good beer before dinner. I look forward to trying more offering from Le Canapaie in the future!
