The Lord of the Beer #45 Brown Grimbergen DoublesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #beer7 years ago

Hello Steemians !

The story for this beer is simply amazing ! A friend of mine who is in bio-engineer had a thesis to make and he had to count the number of roots from the surface to 1m80 deep. His subject was about how deep a certain plant can make roots with special circumstances. Anyway, here we are at the bottom of this sort of pit. My mission was simple, he counted the number and I wrote it in an excel sheet. As every work deserves its salary, I was paid with a nice Grimbergen !

Description

This is a beer with 6.5% and it's an Abbey beer. The Abbey is located in the north of Brussels but its production is part in Belgium and part in French. Fun fact about it, the Abbey was burned down a lot of time and rebuilt as many time, therefore their logo is a phoenix, reborn in ashes.
An Abbey beer is another label, the same kind as the Trappist one but easier to obtain. You only need to refer your beer to an Abbey or monastic life but it's not necessary that the Abbey is still in activity. Another rule is that a part of the profit must be redistributed to the monastic community. There are about 20 brands making real Abbey beer such as Leffe, Affligem, Maredsous, ...
This label was created to stop the abuses of trademarks on the name Abbey, this is the label :

Tasting

Time to taste ! The nose is very soft for a brown one. The sparklingness was just perfect, it was also a soft beer, not bitter at all which is a great quality for me. The amount of sugar was ok and there wasn’t any after taste. The last thing about this one is that it wasn’t heavy at all, we drank 2 of them without any problem.

Rating

I rate this beer 17/20, it was a very good beer ! I think it’s even one of my favorite brown, let me explain. It can’t be compared with a Rochefort 10 they’re just not the same kind. It’s more a little soft brown beer, not too strong and you can drink it without fearing getting drunk super fast like with a stronger one, the Chimay Blue for example. Plus, it’s a very well balanced beer.
