Jackie Brown by Mikkeller | Beer Review

in #beer7 years ago

Today, I finally get to try Mikkeller's much-praised brown ale Jackie Brown. According to Mikkeller's website, Jackie Brown refers to the stewardess from Tarantino's movie of the same name from 1997. The label on the bottle looks like an airplane ticket, which is another cool thing about this brew.

Brewed at the De Proef brewery in Belgium | ALC/VOL 6.0% | ~3.5€ for 330ml

Brown ale would not be brown ale without a piece of chocolate brownie. Right?

Color and Aroma
The first thing that strikes me when pouring the beer is how huge the head is; I am not sure whether I made a mistake or it is supposed to be like that. The color is dark brown with a ruby hue, which can be spotted when holding the glass to the light. The smell is hoppy with notes of citrus fruits and coffee.

Taste
The foam feels thick and sticky on my lips. The taste starts sweet with hints of coffee and dark chocolate but a second later the hops kick-in and start dominating with their bitterness. As you can guess, the aftertaste is bitter too. Carbonation is pleasant (read medium).

That's what remained of the foam after I drank the beer

Verdict
Jackie Brown is one of those brews that make you wonder whether you like them or not. I liked the blend of dark chocolate and coffee and disliked the way too bitter aftertaste. Overall, I am giving it 3.5 out of 5 stars - Give it a try!

Many thanks, @detlev! 🙃🍻

Great post, I have not seen any brown ale's in this part of the world, I am not sure if they are available - great post thanks for sharing!!

Thank you @rynow! If I want to drink a fancy beer, I usually visit the local craft beer shop. They have a huge selection of brews from all over the world. Is there such a store near the place where you live?

I like the label and the color, I will try one if I can get hold of it here.

I think that you should be able to find it. Have you seen the movie? I watched it after drinking the beer :D

I feel this is my "cup of beer". Digging the mix of coffee and dar chocolates which is really why it's bitter afterwards. I am so into your beer reviews, makes me wanna do reviews myself, but with Ramen. :D

Haha, do you like beer? I am going to publish another review this Saturday when I will be drinking the world's most bitter beer :)

Is Ramen popular in The Philipines?

I like beer from time to time. I like cheap wine more. Beer can cause bloating in me. Hehe... I will remember that! excited to see the photos!

These days, yes. Specially that Filipinos are into Korean and Japanese stuff. :) I just crave ramen everyday.

Ah, cheap wine reminds me of my student years in Denmark - 1 liter for 2 euros :) Although the wine tasted like crap, it served its purpose 😁🍷

Do you think it might have been the brownie that made the beer seem more bitter, I find that happens when I have beer with really any hops in them matched with desserts?

That could very well be the reason for the bitterness. I will buy another one next week. Thanks for stopping by, man! :)

Lol 😂
