Tipples Beer Review #67 – Gararge Project Beer (NZ)

I don't actually like pilseners, like all craft beer snobs I'll claim they are too plain, lack interest, don't have the requisite double smoked muscat poo or whatever is the hot new ingredient this week. Of course I'm a fool, they are a very hard style to get right, like true modern architecture there are no tricks to hide in, the simplicity is what makes it so hard.

Now Garage Project is one of new Zealand’s finest craft brewers and they are very clever people. They have played on this craft beer snobbery by making a beer simply called, beer, no fancy packaging for this one, just beer in a white can, it so ironic and self referential it almost doesn't exist, or at least it does but it deeply questions its own existence.

Anyway the beer itself is brilliant, it's the light straw colour that a pilsner should be. It's smell is the most familiar beer smell in the world. Saaz hops and Pilsner yeast, you've smelt it a billion times so it has all the happiness of familiarity.

What does it taste like? Who know when people say I just wanted a beer that tastes like beer? Well Beer (by Garage Project) taste just like that, like beer, it's refreshing, you don't have to think about it, study the hop bite to determine which new hop variety it is. Nope you drink it, your mind wanders, you relax and that's what good beer does.

So beer, it's awesome get some....
