Beer Tasting - Abbey Tripel ('Tripel Karmeliet' by Brouwerij Bosteels)

My beer mate took me to a new place that opened in the famous Opatovina street in central Zagreb, Croatia. It is called the Big Tolk (Veliki Tolk, Croatian) and got it’s name after Tolkien’s Pub just across the street. It is the same owner who seems to be crazy about fantasy related paraphernalia!

As you enter, the lighting is a bit dim and so it happened it was empty. That’s only because of the summer heat, everyone crowded on the terrace which was too dark to take photos. I like the vibe and I will probably spend some nice evenings there in the future.

As you can see there are plenty of props and figurines, mostly from Tolkien’s stories. Makes you want to take one home, doesn’t it?

We asked for House Special but after learning it wasn’t Hobbit-made, and it was actually Hirter Amber, we settled for a Belgian Ale classic. Tripel Karmeliet here we come!

Appearance	Pale straw. Almost clear. White cloudy-like head. Keeps indefinitely. Label evocative of rural way of life and traditional brewing. I like it. Believable!
Aroma	Banana. Butter. Yeasty. citrus. Rose. Soapy. Extremely aromatic.
Taste	Balanced taste. Very gentle. Dry yeasty on the sweet side. Banana bread.
Palate	Full body. Medium to high carbonazion. Creamy yeasty finish which leaves you wanting more.

Overall	Hard to find a fault in this one. If you find it take it and be blessed. Quite a bargain in this new pub. If you want to pamper yourself don’t overthink it.
Score (subjective)	19/20

Price: 23 kuna (3.70$) for 0.33 l. Bottle at a pub. Mid-range.
