Micro Needling unfiltered

in #beauty8 years ago

As a teenager I had always assumed that once I reached the age of 21, pimples and spots would be a thing of the past. Boy was I wrong. I still get breakouts quite often and each breakout leaves a slight red scar on my skin. I have been wanting to try Micro Needling for a while and I have finally done two treatments.
The concept behind it:
Micro needling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It stimulates your skin to produce more collagen and repair itself from within.
What it targets
The cosmetologist said that it reduces wrinkles and scars. I don’t have wrinkles yet, but I did have red scarring on my chin and on my outer cheeks from all the pimples I tried to pop in the past.
Here's how it works
The cosmetologist uses a Micro Needling pen that looks like a pen with numerous tiny needles at the tip. The needles are retractable so they penetrate your skin numerous times as the pen moves across your skin. For my first treatment, the needle depth was 0.05mm. For my second treatment, the needle depth was 0.1mm.
The process
The cosmetologist started by cleansing my skin and removing all make up. She then applied a numbing cream to my entire face gave it 15 minutes to penetrate. Once my face was numb, she started using the pen. The session lasted about 30-45 minutes. At the end of the treatment, the cosmetologist applied some hyaluronic acid to my face which would stimulate healing and regeneration.
My experience after the treatment
After the first treatment, my skin went red and I had some tiny bloodspots. It took about three days for my skin to completely clear up. I could notice a difference in my skin after two weeks. My skin was smoother and less blotchy and some of my old acne scars were less visible.
After the second treatment, my skin was crimson. I had lots of bloodspots. I have to admit that even with the numbing gel, I could still feel some pain on my forehead during the micro needling process. It took a few days to recover from the second treatment. However, once it cleared up (after 2 weeks), my skin was glowing. I did not use any make up for weeks after.

Will I be doing a third treatment?
Definitely! I was amazed with how my skin looked two weeks after the second treatment. All the blemishes I had had seemed to have become unnoticeable. I stopped wearing makeup because my skin has finally gotten that porcelain appearance that I always wanted.
I would recommend this treatment and I would suggest that you don’t have any important plans 2-3 days after the treatment as your skin may take some time to recover from it.
Pros vs Cons
For me, the best part is that I do not have to wear foundation. My blemishes have become unnoticeable.
Cons- the second treatment was a bit painful even with the numbing cream. Also, I looked scary after the second treatment. My face was swollen and red. I have attached a pic so you can see.

*My treatment was done by Zahra at the Skin Shack (check Instagram). She is based in Johannesburg and she does the treatments at your home.
