A visit to the Timorese Museum of Resistance.

(ENG) East Timor was under the Indonesian occupation for 24 years (1975/1999), an era of repression and violence. The country became independent in 2002. The Timorese Archive & Museum of Resistance (AMRT) is an entity established in 2005 with the purpose to hold the memory and the heritage of the country as well as to spread the values of Timor-Leste People's Resistance Fight, especially to the younger.

(PT) Timor-Leste esteve so a ocupação indonésia durante 24 anos (1975/1999), no que foi uma era de repressão e violência. O país tornou-se independente em 2002. O Arquivo & Museu da Resistência Timorense (AMRT), criado em 2005, é uma entidade especialmente vocacionada para a preservação da memória e do património histórico nacional e para a divulgação dos valores da Luta de Resistência do Povo de Timor-Leste, especialmente junto dos jovens.

(ENG) So, AMRT undertakes a cultural leading role intended to carry out, to promote and to sponsor cultural, scientific and educational events in the fields of preservation and dissemination of the Memory of Timor-Leste People's Resistance Struggle, of recognition and social value of the Veterans, of the consolidation of national identity, of the contemporary history of Timor-Leste and of the promotion of peace and respect for human rights.

(PT) Para o efeito, o AMRT assume-se como um protagonista cultural que se propõe realizar, promover e patrocinar ações de natureza cultural, científica e educativa nos domínios da preservação e divulgação da Memória da Luta de Resistência do Povo de Timor-Leste, do reconhecimento e valorização social dos Veteranos, da consolidação da identidade nacional, da história contemporânea de Timor-Leste e da promoção da Paz e do respeito pelos Direitos Humanos.

(ENG) AMRT believes it's paramount to create close working ties with national and international universities while relying upon a more organizational and scientific autonomy, non-discriminatory and open to national and international contributions that will boost the ability to accomplish its goals.

(PT) O AMRT entende essencial a criação de laços de estreita colaboração com as Universidades nacionais e estrangeiras e pretende assumir-se com a adequada autonomia organizativa e científica, sem discriminações e aberto às contribuições nacionais e internacionais que melhor permitam o cumprimento dos seus objetivos.

Interesting to see the Portuguese language.
Is that language still use much there?

Yes, it's one of the official languages, together with the local one, Tetum. This is because ET was a former Portuguese colony and Portuguese was the language of the resistance during Indonesian occupation. Thanks, my friend!

You're welcome. Thanks for the information. The history is complicated around the islands there.
Singapore has always been British colony other than the Japanese occupation but nearby I remember there's been Dutch and Portuguese who had been fighting too.

You're right. ET was attacked by the Japanese also in the WWII.
Portuguese and Dutch were the main settlers, yes. ET was also colonized by the Dutch, partially.

Ah, I didn't return all the little history I studied to my teachers then.

Neither did I... but I guess it's too much information ;) to handle!
