Aha! My bleeding hearts are red probably because they are red bleeding hearts! They now have red, pink and white. /growing up, my mom always had the pink ones and our neighbor had red ones. Of course, after several seasons, they traded and then they each had both colors.

Oh, you may be later in the season, but, think how you will be enjoying the beginning of your spring, long after ours has peaked and we will be whining to you! Just wait and see. I intend on putting in my share of the whining, don't you worry.
