A Short Mountain Trip

in #beautifulsunday6 years ago (edited)

Inspired by #sublimesunday a tag from @c0ff33a and #beautifulsunday (hosted by @ace108) plus a beautiful day of Sunday! Thanks for the wonderful idea. You probably had it on a Sunday.

A nice gift. I made my wife (and me) a nice gift for a Sunday day. A short (on the run) hike to the mountain in the small town of Sinaia.

Sinaia is named after the name of Sinaia Monastery, built in 1690. Sinaia is inspired by the Biblical Mount Sinai.
Besides the Monastery, Sinaia is known for the Peles Castle, built by King Carol I, the first king of Romania and the Casino.

It is also a destination for winter sports, especially for skiing. But most of it is a place to relax, to breathe the fresh mountain air and the charming landscapes.

It is located in the Bucegi Mountains and is 120 km from Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

Less than two hours by car and we reach Sinaia. The landscape is beautiful around us, at least the last 20 to 30 km.

Arriving in Sinaia, the first place we want to visit is the Monastery. The monastery that gave the name of the city.

Arriving in Sinaia, the first place we want to visit is the Monastery. The monastery that gave the name of the city.
Built in 1690 and painted by the greatest church painter, Parvu Mutu Zugravu. I'll let you see some of her beauties.

This is a monastery, here live 20 monks. Monks who are flower lovers!

In this monastery is buried an important former Romanian Prime Minister. Take Ionescu.

There are two churches in this monastery, I have shown you the old church since 1690. It was later built an even bigger church in 1848. I like the passage between the old and the new church.

I stayed more at this monastery because it is a special monument and very valuable from the point of view of the ancient Romanian culture. The hours passed, we leave quickly to Peles Castle, a goal that can not be bypassed if you are in Sinaia.

The alleys leading to the Castle are bordered by secular trees of special beauty.

The Castle is just before us.

Our trip is short, we do not have time to visit the Castle ... for two reasons: The castle is very big and it takes hours to visit it and at the same time there are hundreds of people who want to see it. Now, let's look at the castle from afar, maybe we will soon visit it.

As I told you, there are a lot of visitors, some go to visit ...

... others go angry that they have failed to enter (like us)!

Of course, we consoled with some corn and a little shopping, souvenirs and gifts for friends.

The next goal we want to see is the Casino. That's why we have to leave the castle. Everyone leaves as much as he can.

On the way to the Casino, I saw a memorial in the memory of 378 American soldiers dead during the Second World War for Europe's freedom and gloria of the U.S.A.

The casino in Sinaia was built on the initiative of King Carol I of Romania in 1911. The main shareholder was the Baron de Marçay, a shareholder of the Monte Carlo casino, after whose architecture was built the Casino in Sinaia. The casino is in the beautiful Dimitrie Ghica Park and hosts countless exhibitions.

Unfortunately, the opening hours did not suit us and we had to postpone the visit to the Casino. We'll be happy with a cake and coffee for now.

A little question: What do you think happens very often and very suddenly in a mountain town?
Answer: It rains!

The first drops ...

We already feel that our trip is approaching the end, we go to see what we can before we return home.

Beautiful homes...

A nice train, I think the joy of the children!

An imposing old house, quite degraded draws attention ... has a plate on it. I like the old lawn invaded by vegetation. I have an attraction for old, abandoned things that still look a bit of the splendor of another time.

A big surprise, in fact, the only real surprise I had: in this house lived in 1922 the great violinist (then child) Yehudi Menuhin. He came to Sinaia to take violin lessons from George Enescu's greatest composer! I forgot to say that another attraction in Sinaia is the house where the great composer lived.

Yehudi Menuhin then became one of the most important violinists of the twentieth century!

Well, too much time walking around the city ignoring the rain. Big mistake! Rain has become torrential. We got to the car. The water came to the skin!

This is how a beautiful trip is over. A beautiful Sunday. The rain made it sublime. You may think I'm exaggerating ... no, I like the rain, the mountain rain is special and it made a special day. I have not been so wet for many years. This rain reminded me of youth!

At home we were waiting by a beautiful rose. I offer it to you!

A long drive for todays Sunday, but it was worth it the monastery is beautiful and some amazing sculptures - and wonderful flowers too!

The castle looks like a wonderful place to visit, it's a shame you did not have the time to call in on this day.

Was the sweetcorn ready to eat? It looks good - a healthy snack too. Although I would not say no to that cake either.

Land trains are always fun, we have one in a park local to me - it is always quite clever how they decorate a small tractor so it looks like a train!

I wonder how much it would cost for that wonderful run down old building, it's quite dramatic looking and would suit a movie for sure!

The rain really did come didn't it! That's pouring monsoon type weather - I though I had it bad with a bit of drizzle! No doubt you were soaked by the time you reached the car.

Thank you for sharing this amazing day as your #SublimeSunday I throughly enjoyed reading through it and all the wonderful pictures.
