One of the serious limitations faced by most of the pilot programs in universal basic income is that they are pilot programs. It is impossible to identify the long-term impact of basic income, or the affect that it has on people's lives, if there is a plan to wrap up the program. People make decisions differently with a flow of temporary income than they would with a flow of lasting residual income.

I am working on the system specifications for full automation of all the back office processes. That will allow us to continue growing, without requiring so much back-end effort. At key points (each time a pool is filled, or any time there is a meaningful change in the Steem ecosystem) we evaluate where we are and identify whether any additional tweaks are needed to keep moving toward long-term sustainability.

Once long-term sustainability is achieved, with most processes fully automated, then we will explore whether we should pitch our concept to other UBI advocates and NGO's outside of Steem. The roadmap does not currently have an expiration date or plan to shut down the program. If it looks like changes to the Steem ecosystem are making the program untenable, then we would create a shutdown plan and communicate it with our members at that time.

Sounds pretty comprehensive to me. I read your post on how you intend to run the system. It seems to me that the Steem UBI requires beneficiaries to keep posting in order to reap the rewards of UBI. This seems to go contrary to the definition of UBI's unconditional income. Do you intend to switch to a system where anybody who participates in the program gets to reap unconditional SBD and Steem?

I think you guys started an extremely innovative initiative to combat the income inequality that is growing concern in many countries worldwide.

The basic income that is provided comes from the pool of new STEEM and SBD that is continually being created by the blockchain protocols. Switching to a transfer-based system that is truly unconditional would require having outside sources of support. If we do decide to pitch to NGO's outside of Steem and gather additional donor support, we could look at transitioning for a more unconditional delivery mechanism at that time.

We think it's more important to establish a sustainable model that is somewhat conditional, and then potentially explore transitioning.

If the world waits around for a perfect solution, instead of accepting 'almost' solutions and improving on them, it will always be waiting around and there would never be any actual solutions! As long as the 'almost' solutions don't make things worse, they're still better than sitting around doing nothing.
