Easy cheese & onion bread recipe with red pepper pesto

Recipe – makes 1 medium loaf

  • three brown onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 T olive oil
  • 2-star anise pods (optionally available)
  • 500g Self-Raising Flour
  • 1 cup mature cheddar, grated
  • ¼ cup Pesto Princess Red Pepper Pesto
  • half t salt
  • 1 cup / 250ml buttermilk
  • half cup water

Pre warmth the oven to 180C / 350 F and line a medium bread loaf pan with baking paper.

Heat the olive oil in a non-stick frying pan and sauté the onions and star anise over a delicate warmth for round eight – 12 minutes till they're tender and simply begin turning golden. You don't wish to brown them. Set them apart and permit to chill barely.

Sift the flour and add the salt, cheese and herbs. Add the cooled onions and blend. Add the purple pesto to the buttermilk and stir. Add this together with the water to the flour and gently combine with a picket spoon till it varieties a sticky dough.

Spoon the dough into the ready loaf pan and bake for 1 half hours till golden brown on prime. You will know your bread is finished while you insert a pointy knife or skewer into the thickest half and it comes out clear.
