Breathe in. Breath Out. Repeat and Rest.

It seems so simple. So mindlessly simple.

All I have to do is breathe in and then breath out. Regularly.

Most people do not have issues with breathing.

Among the activities that we engage in, breathing is right up there in terms of importance.

Well that doesn't work out too well for me.

When I sleep I do less breathing.

In truth I stop breathing many times every night - for seconds at a time.

This can prove rather problematic for a variety of reasons... but near the top of the list is a general feeling of tiredness during the day.

You see, when the conscious brain realizes that I've stopped breathing - it awakens slightly to kick the activity back in motion. So the brain never 'truly' falls into proper deep sleep.

And that means that the quality of sleep that I get is significantly inferior.

How inferior? Its like sleeping only two out of every three hours.

Just yesterday, after a couple of 5-hour nights (Global Game Jam) I found myself sleeping a good 15 hours.

  • 1am-10am of regular sleep

  • 12:00-13:30pm dozed off in front of the television (still trying to learn Godot)

  • 14:00-18:30pm 'nap'

And I had very little problem sleeping last night.

So yeah... When I see images like that headlining - I wonder to myself whether people know the full story. I wonder to myself if people know how great of an impact their viral image is going to have on such individuals' lives.

That which is ill-understood is often mocked.

And the worst part is that the threat of mockery may be far from the greatest faced.

Well, thank you for your attention. Its not a cheery topic by far but perhaps a little awareness may be raised. Maybe you have a nod-off colleague who might be annoying you. It might not be their choice.

Do you have any comments that you have to share? I look forward to getting into a discussion with you in the comments below below! :c)

You are not the only person who struggles with the ongoing difficulties of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA for short). Still there are so many options for it's management. Have you had sleep studies yet? Or seen a respiratory physician who could help you deal with it? CPAP or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, can be provided these days with the tiniest little attachment to your nose at night: the deep sleep is worth it. It applies a bit of positive air pressure to keep the airways open. There may also be other options. Good luck!! 😊

Oh I know that I am not the only one @mysecondself01. :c)

Yes, I did take a sleep study, and yes some kind of CPAP is definitely recommended. What am I waiting for? I am moving sleep locations (and towns) in a month or two and it is killing my motivation to get one 'just' yet (leaning Philips).

I also admit that the notion of growing dependent upon the operation of such a machine does come with its concerns (which is one reason I'm leaning toward a model with a battery built-in). I don't fancy dying of suffocation by the treatment.

Those are all excuses. It needs to happen. I also feel it to be a major blow to my pride. That too is an excuse.

Thanks, both for the up-vote and your comment. ^_^
