Interesting to contrast the Volkswagen with the Jeep--the Volkswagen was supposed to be a civilian car and then became a military vehicle, and the Jeep was created to be a military vehicle but then became hugely popular as a civilian vehicle after the war.

The VW dune buggy retained a bit of it's "military" application too:-)
And of course, we can't forget the VW Thing!
There's actually a lot of these dual-purpose cars when you start to think about it, the Hummer H1, various Land Rovers......etc
