Buy one ECOCAPSULE for 80 Bitcoins today!

in #autonomy7 years ago (edited)

This thing just blew my mind after figuring out it's wealth of possibilities with blockchains, smart-locks, and social apps. I also like that it has a rainwater-collection system, augmented by the capsule's curvature. Doesn't look very safe and comfortable at first glance, but it could be decent. And mass adoption may happen since it's basically a crib that pays for itself over time. Seems like a great fit for the autonomous sharing-economy.

For now, if you're thinking of taking part in the movement and don't mind parting with 80 BTCs (79,000 Euros), you can get it on the website here: https://www.ecocapsule.sk

This thing is wickedly overpriced.
Buy a used trailer, solar panels, and foam insulation, and you can make better for probably around 20 BTC.

I wonder if there's a "retro-fit-kit" out there for off the grid living... this module could definitely be made for less. Very sleek though.

There are thousands of retro-fit-kits. They are just in pieces, not kits.
It is just solar or wind power. You work out how much energy you use, and then figure out how much solar panels and wind turbines you need to buy to fill that.

Like the Tesla Powerwall. You can buy more for less, it just doesn't come with a spiffy looking cover.

The one thing that is very different when you are living off of battery power is that you can't just plug things in. Like, your TV, it is always on and draining your batteries even when not in use. Off-grid people put a switch going to the outlet to turn it ALL off. Or similar with a power strip.

There are thousands of articles on solar living. To me it is all very simple. But, I guess it needs to be made even simpler for this current generation that never had a shop class.

This is definitely the iPhone of tin-houses. But if they have better ideas to improve this concept, I guess that's how it's going to get funded..

My problem with these things is not about building one.
It is about zoning. In so many places you cannot live in a trailer. Or you can only live in a trailer 6 out of 7 days, or other stupid shit.
And if you pay all the fees for building codes/permits, then you might as well build a house. It's cheaper and far more sturdy. But then codes demand you build a monster of a house...

I would easily build these things, knock them out, make them better... but I have no ability to work with the state anymore.

Looks like the Thais have it best when it comes to these matters. In Bangkok, it certainly looks like people can do whatever they want on their land (definitely not in city centres though).

Edit: ah zoning, indeed, i don't have any idea at all on how to plop this anywhere I want to lol.

paying with bitcoin is actually really ironic considering how much energy the bitcoin network wastes with pow lol

LOL, good catch!

The same technology for building will cost far lesser than the outrageous advertised price. DIY modules will cost way less. But all the same great idea.

If they've a team to put research and development further into the self-sustaining system, i think the overpricing is exactly to fund such a thing :) Just like VR developer kits that were sold before the consumer version, or actually anything with early adopters paying a premium for..

The thing is you could buy a decent house (in most places as long as it isn't London) for that price and it would be a lot bigger and safer. It looks cool though. If it was 10K it would be a killer proposition!

Pretty sure it'll get much cheaper after a few generation of funding / r&d :)

Yes I suspect so. I think this kind of stuff is sorely needed in the big cities.

@kevinwong -- @thecryptofiend can bankroll our R+D on this and we can crowdfund the rest and take OffGrid living to the next level.

I already sleep in a hammock outside half the year anyways.

Big money, but I have been a fan since they came out.

I'll personally wait for the 3-4th generation when they've made it much better and cheaper :)

Yep.

Saw you on the Twitter machine this last week!!! +1 dude.

That looks like a cool concept, though I'm not a fan of the space-age aerodynamic exterior. (I'm a huge fan of tiny homes!)

I think they definitely need to have wheels added in the next iteration..

Yes, they should have wheels.

Wow, that is neat. Can they put it on the blockchain?

Not yet, but I'm sure it will be at one point! Plenty of use cases with this once connected into some platform / network.

As for many comments, I find it a bit expensive for what it is (even if the money will support the next R&D step, it is still overpriced IMO)

Yeah this is to attract those who want shiny new cool things, and to be the first ones in having them xD

I can cope with being second (especially as I don't have 80 BTC) ^^
