The Perfect Sleeping AudiosteemCreated with Sketch.

in #audio10 years ago (edited)

I'm currently on my 35+ hour being awake and need to sleep. Usually I use a certain web-application, messing around with its configurations - you may check it out in one of my older posts here: A Guide To Using The Sound of Rain To Improve Relaxation & Productivity

But this time I wanted a better kick, so I went around Youtube earlier and spent a good hour looking for "Rain on Tin Roof" recordings. There are quite a number of "Rain on Tin Roof" samples, but here's the best one I think. It's very subjective though - different types of rain for different tastes.

Here's a mildly-interesting fact about myself: I used to record rain sounds around my neighbourhood more than 10 years ago. Those were never really perfect recordings - there were dogs barking and cars passing by intermittently. What's funny is that I thought I had a really niche, revolutionary hobby that I can record and sell "adspaces" - like you'd hear Nike's Just Do It, or whatever else halfway listening through the hour-long rain samples. Of course it failed.

A little over 4 years ago, there was a Youtube surge in rain-samples - there's a gazillion of them now, and very well recorded, especially on this channel called TexasHighDef. Anyway, here's the recording that I find awesome. It sounds really cozy and somewhat heart-warming:-

LOL. Just as I'm typing this sentence now, it started to rain in real life. The rain is smacking quite heavily outside now. I'm opting for the real thing :P

sleep well Kevmaster.

I'm up already -_- haha!

I'm not sure of your musical tastes, but I have found Dan Gibson's Solitudes series to be some of the most soothing, peace-inducing music I have ever heard. He couples recordings of rain, streams, and wildlife with beautiful music that always calms me and eases my mind.

Beautiful, thanks for the recommendation! Definitely not for sleep (no music), but great for my waking hours :)

I used to record rain on a tape recorder as a kid, and when I first had access to real pro audio equipment in college, I had so much fun with it. I was never as focused on marketing it at that point...mainly just the creativity of it and enjoying the sounds.

Thanks for sharing this with us! Love the sound of the rain. We have real rain going on here today, but when it ceases, I'll hit play.

Lol it's flipped the other way around, i started with that marketing mindset. Now sometimes I just make music and spin some records without even thinking of marketing myself. NP - figured that most people loves the sound of rain :)

I have never thought about it, but this sounds is indeed very relaxing. Concerning the fact it helps for sleep, this may be very dependent on the individual, I guess.

Yup, I've known a few that doesn't like rain sound at all, and more that doesn't like "artificial" rain like these recordings! I tend to agree that it'd never beat the real thing. It just doesn't rain that often here :)

I think these kind of white noise makes it easier to sleep for many but noise that you're not used to will wake you up immediately. I was once in Indonesia and woke because a bird was chirping away but at home when the public buses start coming to the bus stops downstairs, I'll continue to sleep through.

Yeap like what I mentioned in another comment here - perhaps we're just used or have a better relaxation effect from whatever noise we've grown up with :) I wonder how's it like for ppl who stay like right beside a railway track.. lol i guess they'll just get used to it

Also the folks who are near the fire station. :-)

I tried a sleep hypnosis recording a few months ago. It worked, I fell asleep. I was clucking like a chicken though for about a week after. They kicked me out of KFC because they thought I was mocking them.

So chicken's the new mockingbird? xD

I'd eat a bucket of that.

love me some rain sounds when i sleep, or a nice crackling fire

Hmm which sample for the crackling fire? I find most noise other than rain pretty difficult. Perhaps it's because I wasn't born with any furnace in the house :)

Nice post!
I just love to sleep while its raining outside. It's so relaxing! :)

The best ever! But I do know people who do not like the sound of rain, it's weird. I thought people have a biological preference to whitenoise

I'm a fan of rain sounds too, I love to work with such a noise around !
Thanks for sharing.

:) What's your go-to rain sample?

I keep this website opened in my browser https://rainymood.com/
They also have apps for android and ios :)

Oh I used that at one point - but there just isn't any customization! Although arguably one of the best vanilla rains out there :)

Off toppic : did you had a great sleep ? or you added more hours to that 35+ hours without sleeping :)

Just a few hours! just too many stuff to write about lol!

Any alternatives ? beside youtube.

Oh check out the link above (first paragraph!)
