RE: The quickest way to a man's heart, is his stomach... Atlanta found it's way! #steemit-roadtrip

Oh my goodness! I'm in Thailand and I've been eating healthy for a few years now - but that sure looks like the south I was in during the 1980's. I cannot explain the popcorn, but everything else looks just how I remember it.

My ex used to get shrimp and grits any place they had it - this was the food from his childhood. And yes, brown paper was always there to sop up what was going to fall out when you tried to get it in your mouth.

We would stop and eat somewhere in "hot-lanta" on the way to his mom's place up near Dalton. This was our little rest before facing hoards of relatives for a few days. You sure brought back my memories tonight.

Your little guy is a doll and looks so happy :)

Wow, your reminiscing sounded as though you were there with us. I spent over a decade as a vegan. When I started eating meat again, I had to chase the old feeling of eating good southern food. The popcorn is the hipster flair. I know Thailand has an interesting culinary scene.

Hipster - lol. My ex used to say everyone in Atlanta thought they were so cool! How funny.

I was mostly vegetarian until I got auto-immune disease about 15 years ago. Now I eat gelatin and organ meat and bone broth - high fat, low carb, high veggies. Such a change. I pretty much cannot eat anything in your whole essay. But is was sure fun to look :)

Here I eat market veggies and street food for the most part. BBQ "Meat on a stick" plays a big part in my life. It's cheap, delicious and doesn't make me sick. Heaven!

I'll watch out for more of this trip. I looked at a couple of your other posts and it sure looks like a fun time.

Popcorn and fried chicken was a staple on Sunday at Grandma's. I don't know why, but the two definitely went together! I just called to ask Dad, and he said it was a pretty common accompaniment for fried chicken when he was growing up in the south.

lol - this is so funny. I was just on a southern food blog from one of my Pinterest groups and yup - there was the popcorn! Somehow I missed this trend in real life but now I will be on the lookout to see if they have some in Thailand.
