Light Baffles

in #astronomy6 years ago (edited)

When we lived in Florida I spent a lot of time stargazing as it was always warm and very convenient. One of the problems experienced by most stargazers is light pollution.

I remedied this using the following method that may help some of you.

I started out with a bunch of PVC piping, a few fittings, and some tarps as you can see below.

I selected these specific tarps as they have a draw string which allowed me to put the PVC pipes into an already sewed in channel...

Here is the first panel finished. As you can see the corners of these tarps are opened making assembly easy. For the cross member all I had to do was cut a small slit into the channel and then I used some duct tape to prevent any tearing.

And here is a close up....

Once the four panels were completed I just used tie-wraps to secure them to each other.
You can see that they provided plenty of space even for my 12" Dob! They make excellent light baffles, and are very inexpensive. If you are into astronomy, it's starting to warm up.....and if you have been letting light keep you from observing, give this solution a try!

Wow! That is an impressive telescope! I've always dreamed of owning one like that. Unfortunately, all I've ever been able to manage so far is a 4" unit.

Four inches is nothing to be ashamed of Brother. You know, they say it's not the size.....

I...um...hehe, yes, well...I...ah, was talking about my telescope.

Of course you were.......🔎

A really great idea!
Is that your telescope??? Wow!

Thank you Brother.
It is my telescope. If you'd like to know more about it just search for:

Zhumell Z12 Deluxe Dobsonian Reflector Telescope

Enjoy!

It's beautiful, I have a couple of friends that have telescopes but they pale in comparison! I'll be looking into that, thank you

This is some I would love to do. I always wanted to have a setup for star gazing but due to the expenses I never tried. Thanks for igniting the buried passion. I will take your help when I plan to set it up. Cheers!

This setup cost less than a Strat Brother! You can make it happen!

haha! Thats an inspiration. :)

Neccessity is always the process of inventions. Great Job!

hi brother @brimax how are you ?, how's your farm ?. Greetings to your wife @anise. Fantastic creacion brother, really that when reading all the publication and see the pictures, I have been enchanted, since I admire the way in which you create very useful things and that always serve for something important. In this case you have created some defrectors of light, they are very important because with this we can study and see everything about light, astronomy is a very important issue. Your creation is perfect, so I thank you because you teach us today how to do something important, your creations are fantastic. I hope you find yourself well, greetings and blessings for you.

Thank you Brother. I am happy to share all that I know, and, happier to learn what I don't know!

From what I understand you are also a lover of astronomy, a very interesting science, for people who like to reveal the secrets of the planet. It is a very exciting subject and this post will serve many people who like the matter of the stars and guide them to invent a telescope watching this interesting material. I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and that of your wife towards us who are in this crisis, so cruel. Greetings through the distance. @brimax

You are more than welcome. Thank you!

Woow that is a super device say a telescope, I used to see them when I lived in the capital of my country could be seen at night although you are right light makes it difficult to see the stars, I understand that in places like Las Vegas you can not see the stars the amount of light that there is, I like that method @brimax

That is true. In certain cities light pollution is just to bad for any type of celestial viewing.

This method to reduce this is very good friend, I liked that trick with tape every day I learn new things with you @brimax

I like to look at the stars it is like that in certain places you can see them easily here in my country if you go to the plain you can see them easily there is not much light in the plain that would be something like the jungle but here they call it

I would certainly like the opportunity to view stars in the southern hemisphere.....there are a lot of interesting sights to see that cannot be viewed way up here.

Hello friend how are you how is your farm I love when you show what you do because I learn a lot from you, this is very useful have you tried it? Could you see the stars?
Im very grateful for your support, say hello to candy and your wife

You can definitely see the stars!

an awesome idea, you are very creative

Thank you Brother.
