Where do you think the excess water during periods of heavy downpour will go since we are busy reclaiming wetlands for construction purposes?

Wetlands naturally are reservoirs or storage tanks for excess water especially during prolonged periods of heavy rainfall or downpour. Often, this is normally during the rainy season. These wetlands are protected under international Environmental Laws such as the Ramsar Convention duly ratified by most developing countries.
Today we find most of these wetlands under serious threats especially in developing Countries as they are been gradually reclaimed for construction purposes. As a result, the excess runoff or water which was suppose to be sored in the reservoirs, will thus circulate in the town thereby causing traffic, destroying properties, invading homes, crops etc.
Therefore, in as much of our river channels have been greatly polluted by plastics, we should endeavor to save our wetlands from all being reclaimed and this can be done through advocacy.
#Let us join our voices and say no to wetland reclaimation in our communities#
It is very difficult to stop construction with a growing population.
You can go up and protect the nature by law. Inform & educate people to make less kids in countries were population is growing.
Other areas could be used and cities planned, population growth rates regulated, because can withstand those aforementioned but the devastating effects of floods are always scary.
There are marginal lands which could be used for such purposes, effects of floods are usually devastating as well the collapse of the said buildings.
