I get this amazing image on the Riksa Dewantara website and including on SIENA International Photo Award 2018 as the 2nd place in Journeys and Adventures category.

Curator's critique

Riksa Dewantara is an talented photographer from Surabaya, Indonesia. He loved photography since he was in junior high school in Jakarta, Indonesia. His photos received many national and international awards. And he's the one of the influential photographers today.

I always think that a photo is a part of a life story, an object that is able to talk about itself to give rise to reactions from those who see it and can even make someone have a desire to see it for real.

This photo is an tourist spot that is quite well-known in Indonesia and in the world because of the natural beauty as well as its well-preserved cultural customs. Mount Bromo, located in Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia.

This photo was taken during the eruption of the Bromo volcano in 2016, shows a horse that jerks with a loud bang and thunder. The dark color seems to emphasize how very gripping the situation is when Mount Bromo is experiencing an eruption. Photographers make us seem to be carried away an feel about the real situation. And want to dig deeper about life there, how can people survive near volcanoes that often do not necessarily erupt time.

Lighting and the technique of capturing extraordinary objects, there is no need to doubt about the photographer in class of Riksa Dewantara. I have seen some of his photos on his website and social media pages. It is truly extraordinary, he captures many natural objects as well as portraits, the lives of local people, personal objects and cultural objects.
