What is a bot exactly?

So I was accused of being a "bot" by someone on this site because I made a post promoting my website.

What does that even mean and what exactly is the standard that is being used to make such a judgment?
Why take the time to find my little post, in this sea of posts, and type such a thoughtless comment, with no context?

I'm the "bot" though?

    I looked at your previous post and I think there has been a misunderstanding.

    The person in question was not accusing you of being a bot. He was responding to @wang who commented on your post and accusing him of being a bot. @wang is indeed our resident bot (btw).

    Hope this helps to clear up the confusion, and welcome to Steemit!

        This sounds exactly how a bot would respond to the accusation of being a bot. ;)

        A "bot" is :

        an autonomous program on a network (especially the Internet) that can interact with computer systems or users, especially one designed to respond or behave like a player in an adventure game (or Steemit).

        seriously??? dude made a lame light hearted joke to ease the tension and then answered the question and you take time out of your busy schedule to say that??? smells like butthurt.

        hey aren't u the guy that downvoted them for advertising steem and had all the steem ads removed from social media sites? i'm sure that helped all steem investors tremendously.

        grow up man. you're a founder of a multi-million dollar company acting like a 12 yr old reprimanding people for jokes while your own actions do actual harm to all investors. just wow. i hope your account got hacked and this is not your real personality or we're all in trouble.

        I am still having fun here and I am sure Tuck is too.

        I have heard from many new users about their experiences, including some with accusations of being bots or catfish. It's worth a brief comment. As was this. Sorry I can't write a blog post for every mistake I make, there wouldn't be enough time in the day...

        Everything I typed was a question, indicating that I didn't understand.

          Sorry if you were taken a back by this. The platform's community tends to reward uniqueness. In the future, we'll have better channels for people to show uniqueness
