The earliest record of beekeeping dates to 2,400 B.C. near Cairo, according to the British Honey Importers and Packers Association. Ancient Egyptians used honey as a sweetener, a healing medicine, and embalming fluid. Medical researchers are confirming what previous generations have always known—having honey in your diet can help you stay healthy and fight disease.

BENEFIT FROM HONEY ???

  1. Honey is filled with antioxidants, contain phenols and flavonoids, which can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in your body while protecting you against stroke, heart disease, and cancer. Medical researchers continue to find out more about the important role antioxidants like those in honey play in eliminating harmful free radicals from the human body. Free radicals are believed to be created during metabolism and may contribute to many serious diseases.

  2. Anti-microbial subtance, Other than to being rich in antioxidants, honey also has antibacterial and antiseptic qualities that accelerate wound and burn healing by providing a moist environment and increasing the flow of nutrients to the affected site. Honey’s also effective at killing pathogens such as E. coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), which can both cause skin infections. According to a 2012 study published in the Journal Pediatrics (and my grandmother), just two teaspoons of honey can help cure a persistent cough. Thanks to its antimicrobial properties, honey not only soothes the throat, but also kills certain bacteria which cause the infection.

  3. Taking care your digestive system, According to research published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, the antioxidants in honey may prevent free radicals from damaging the cells that line the digestive tract, which can cause acid reflux (pain in lower chest due to rising acid level within stomach). Honey may also be able to reduce inflammation in the esophagus and provide a coating for its mucous membrane. just keep in mind while it's benefit for most age, infants cant consume honey because it can cause botulism (type of poisoning that affects the nervous system).

  4. Good alternative from granulated sugar, Honey is contain more calories than sugar (teaspoon of honey contains 23 calories , compared with a level teaspoon of sugar, which contains 16 calories. due to that case, mix honey into our energy drink is more healthy choice than add granulated sugar which didnt have much nutrient compare to nutrients benefited from honey.

  5. Honey for skincare and hair, Honey is a moisturiser and works wonders on patches of dry skin. honey also acting as exfoliator (remove dead skin/dirt within upper skin) for skin You can use it to soften up your knees and elbows, even chapped lips. While honey is sweeter than sugar and contains more nutrients, it also has more calories. In general, honey has more health benefits but both sugar and honey are harmful in excess. there's a risk from the honey itself,

  • Same risk from execsive sugar consumption ; Despite the health benefits that may be associated with honey, it’s high in sugar — which can be detrimental to your health. In fact, studies show that high-sugar diets may be linked to obesity, inflammation, insulin resistance, liver issues, and heart disease if consume to much.

  • Botulism, According by Rose Ann Gould Soloway, RN, BSN, MSEd, DABAT emerita from Clinical Toxicologist, Children under the age of twelve months are at risk of infant botulism if they are fed honey or anything with honey in it. Botulism spores can be found in honey; when swallowed, the spores release a toxin. Infants' systems are too immature to prevent this toxin from developing. In fact, most cases of botulism in the U.S. are in infants.
When botulism toxin is absorbed from the intestines, it affects the nervous system. The most common symptoms in infants are muscle weakness – the infant feels "floppy" constipation, sometimes for several days; poor sucking and feeding; and an unusual cry. Poor feeding can quickly lead to dehydration. Muscle weakness can lead to breathing difficulties.
