Zord & Bellydancing 😦

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Alright.... for some of you who came into this post in hopes to see me belly dance, I'm sorry because I'm going to let you down. I have a belly, yes, but I don't think I can belly dance anywhere as good as these girls who gave it their all that night.

Going back about three weeks ago, a good friend of mine came asking whether I wanted to go support her walk down the runway during a belly dance festival. She recently only started belly dancing and she found that she loved it a lot. It is like a release for her. I saw her passion for it and how much she loved doing it, I wanted to give her a little moral support. She is part of the organizing team as a designer. Her day time job is a graphic designer so she used her skills volunteering to design EVERY single banner and the posters for this festival. She did an amazing job at that and she did it singlehandedly.

One of the few reasons why I went was also because she was going to walk down the runway in a fashion show segment showcasing a dress designed from Egypt and I knew it was a big thing for her. I have never seen her so excited and stressed out at the same time. In a good way...

Going to a belly dance festival was kind of a new thing to me as I've never attended one before and to be honest, I was pretty shy to go alone. It's going to be kind of awkward to me being the only guy sitting alone at a corner and watching girl's dance is some might say, pure creeeppyy... I would feel awkward myself so I invited a good friend of mine along too. We both actually know her because we were all colleagues before. Remember the company I was working in that I loved a lot? Yea, that was how three of us met and we kept contact until today.

So I got two tickets to the show and boy was I amazed. If you could see my face during the entire show, I was literally the smiley with the mouth wide open. It was pretty mesmerizing. Watching the world's goddesses take the stage and own it was really an amazing experience for me. Then came my friend who so elegantly walked down the aisle. I quickly took out my phone to take a good photo of her but the place being dark and all, my phone definitely did not do her justice.

One thing about all this and what I admire is the courage and passion she showed. If it was me, I wouldn't DARE to even step foot on a stage that huge with people expecting 'entertainment' from you. I would never see myself in that spot and my friend did it out of passion. You did well!

Here are some photos from that night. Excuse the blurry photos.

The Organizer, A passionate goddess

Once again, I apologize for the blurry photos but I was trying my best to take the best when it's at its lowlight and photographing a dancing person. The photos definitely did not do the ladies justice.

The lady in the photo and her group of bellydancers is the organizer of this World Belly Goddess Festival. Hearing from my friend who worked closely with her, she shared to me about her passion and how hard this goddess worked behind the scenes in making this festival a success.

She runs a belly dancing academy in Malaysia as well and because of her love for this art, she made this her dream to share this passion of hers to the world, even to World-class standards as you can see from this festival alone.

I briefly asked her right after the night ended, 'was this her first time organizing this event?'.

She said,' yes, it was' (with much excitement).

And she did a FANTASTIC JOB.

The night was flawless for the dancers and audience who came to learn and appreciate the show and because she and her team pulled through. Good job!

There were performers from all over the world and world-class champions who were there. I never knew how privileged I was until later that night when the night wrapped up, we had our late supper at a mamak stall just across the theatre hall, my friend explained to me the whole industry of belly dancing. It was something you've all probably heard of but not many were keen on doing it. A dying art, which is sad. The organizer of this festival had a passion to educate and give this industry a hope that it is also a form of dance art and a beautiful one at that!

All my life I've heard of belly dancing but it is a rare dance style in Malaysia, so I'm grateful that my friend actually invited me for it. I'm glad that there are people who want to see this grow!

hahaha... hmmmm .... I definitely have the belly for it hahahaha

What an awesome evening that must have been. Your photos are fabulous - the blurriness gives a sense of the movement. I have never seen belly dancing in real life, so that must have been amazing. I've always loved the costumes and the sense of both romance and intrigue that goes with that genre of dancing. Your friend's costume is just beautiful. So is she.

I have never seen it in real life as well and this was indeed an eye-opening experience for me. My friend would be so happy to hear that :) She is indeed beautiful!

That was a sucessful clickbait!
