Week #12 Fox Tales : Announcing the next story image and winners!

in #art8 years ago (edited)

If you love writing stories then this contest is for you! Write a one paragraph story about the image pictured above. Be creative, think outside of the box, and follow the contest rules!

Here are our winners for week #11 and the image from last week’s post! Sorry it took me so long to make this announcement. I wanted to post this earlier in the evening but I needed a few breaks in between to rest. I enjoyed all of the stories for this week. They were all so interesting which made it hard for me to pick winners. I hope to see the same amount of creativity for this week’s contest!

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s foxtales!

1st place // @holothewiseReunion

Karli had never believed in life after death, even after all her father had taught her. And yet now, when she was so close to reversing it the notion that he might not want it reversed tugged the edge of her every thought, sleeping and waking. She had done all the preliminary work, the scientific trials, the proof of concept. Of course, it hadn't gone quite right with the dog. She’d had to put it down again after it started eating away at its own legs, but with a human it would be different. It would work because she was going to ask first. Osteomancy, her father had taught her, is divination with bone. Human bone works best. Even better the bones of the subject themselves if you are trying to pierce beyond the veil. She had read his words, the books she despised her father writing as a child, over and over now. She had made the bones. Was ready to cast them, to ask. Her dear, departed father lying frozen in a morgue would finally be able to hold his little girl again. At least in one arm.

2nd place // @katharsisdrillThe strange condition

The bookshelves of the little library suddenly seemed dim and transparent. She was having another attack of that strange condition. Last time was yesterday at the sermon. Dr. Stephen, the large redheaded pastor that she admired so much for his determined stance against sin, had been shouting his blessed words and suddenly it was as if the whole room and the entire congregation became like dark glass. Only the agitated preacher was not affected. She remembered how Dr. Stephen had been almost glowing and she had been scared and violently attracted to him. Both things at the same time. She looked around in the library and there it was! One book that was not affected by the condition. Just like the pastor. Even though it was placed between two other books she could see the frontpage. »What a strange title,« she thought, »who would call a book, Story of O?«

3rd place // @yalzeeeDaughter of the Wild

Hand stretched outward, the feeling of the cold steel was not as amusing as the fact that she had just spoken to an animal. Her mind kept wandering to the grass meadow where it all happened. She could still see the foxes green eyes and it's cunning smile as it told her things her mind could not fathom on its own. It seemed like her life was changing faster than she could understand. Her abilities had just began to manifest, her type they had called 'the locri', born with the ability to speak to the animals she was the child of the wild. 'Grace', her aunt called out waking her up from her daydream.

A very sick fox here. I thought I was getting better but I fear that I’ve gotten a little bit worse. I’ve had a slight headache and have been feeling lightheaded all day. I’m preparing myself to take some NyQuil after getting this post made. I hate medicine that makes me drowsy but I need to have a good night’s rest.

I’ve been slowly painting this image snuggled up on the sofa. I usually avoid doing landscapes because of the amount of work you have to put into it. I still feel like it has a long way to go but I’m delightfully satisfied. Some of you might recognize the frame in this week’s fox tales image from a post titled, “The first ornate frame I’ve ver drawn.

the first thought that sprung to my mind was a play on the words lost in reflection

Thank you! I hope so too. I’m excited to see what you’ve written. :)

I struggle to say a few more words as my body goes limp. I can't move anymore. I can't hear the cries from my wife nor my children. All I ever did was do my job. Keeping the citizens safe, fighting against crime and all. The only mistake that I probably did is arresting a couple of high class thugs. That's why I my wife was widowed and my children left without a dad. That's why the blood that was everywhere I looked was pouring out of my chest. But it doesn't matter anymore as I start to regain my ability to move. I'm not sure where I am now.....

Explanation: So to me it looks like a mirror from heaven. So I wrote about the scenario of a policeman who was dying and going to heaven!
