in #art7 years ago (edited)

I did a semester on art history in college, it was SO much fun! And Art Nouveau* is one of my favorite styles of decorative art and architecture. However, being an artistically polygamous person, of course i love many other art styles too (such as Color Field that i'm quite obsessed with.)

( * "Nouveau" is a French word that means "new". Another famous art movement with the word "new" in French is La Nouvelle Vague (The New Wave,) which is an experimental French film-making style pinoneered in the 1950s -1960s, one of the most well-known films of this period is Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless. )

Now back to the point, what I would like to share with you today, is a mini jigsaw puzzle of Art Nouveau artist Alfred Mucha's Primrose and Feather (1899) that i had assembled. The original painting looks like this:

As you can see, it is very romantic for its use of muted colors and graceful, moving lines. This is an epitome of the Art Nouveau style which is often inspired by natural forms and structures, especially the curved lines of plants and flowers. If you are curious to see more of Mucha's art works, please visit this Pinterest page, because it's also the source of the above image.

The fun begins! It's a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle produced by a Japanese company, Yanoman.

Just to show you how tiny the pieces are, here is one of them on my finger tip, and i have very small hands. :D

Start with the border, smart move!

For those with "fat fingers", they do provide a pair of tweezers to help assemble this puzzle. :D

Almost there!

You can see the light at the end of the tunnel now...

And voila! How satisfying!

It took me about 3 hours to finish this puzzle, the assembling process is very additive. If you are a jigsaw puzzle lover, please share with us your works and remember to tag me so i could see them too! Our fellow Steemian @gyanibilli is working on a 1000-piece School of Athens now, I look forward to seeing his progress and the final artwork. <3

This has come out very nicely @thisjourney. Thanks for mentioning my work as well..Much appreciated :) you have a new follower.

Thank you! I'm following your journey too! :D

i've never been much of an artsy person, i find it hard to appreciate art sometimes. maybe you should do more posts on art and educate me!

You are sooo nice!~ Thank you for your appreciation. 💜 Taste in art is like taste in food, it's quite personal. And you don't have to be artsy to enjoy art, just follow your feelings and intuition. :) Your interest has inspired me to write about a very "artistic" building in singapore. Stay tuned. ;p

i think i know which one ;)

Great minds think alike! lol which one??? tell me tell me!!!

too easy.. is it spiky and shaped like a durian?

ok... great minds do defer sometimes lol ...Esplanade is definitely very unique and interesting, and now you give me a good idea to write more! Hahaha... what i had in mind was another building. Hint: it's situated along North Bridge Road. :D Less touristy but very very beautiful, and very very un-singaporean, if you know what i mean.. lol ...speaking of "Singaporean", would it be a cliche to blog about MBS? lol

damn, so it wasn't so easy after all... i have no idea! i can't think of anything located around north bridge road that's un-singaporean. what is it?!

and nah, i think it won't be cliche. especially since there aren't many singaporeans on steemit. i think people would enjoy reading a post about it. i would do it, but i have no idea what to write about MBS besides the infinity pool, shoppes, casino and maybe gardens by the bay. and i have no pics to share! maybe i could do it if i were in singapore, then i would be able to take a bunch of pics.

edit: wait, is it the old hill street police station? that's not on hill street, though. but nearby north bridge road.

MICA is totally awesome too, a bit too colorful to my taste but always fun to look at 😂😂😂 no it's not MICA.. you will see when the post is up lol and by the way, just enjoy your holiday in France man, take photos and capture your beautiful memories, you will miss it more when you're back to singapore... don't worry about MBS, it's still gonna be there when you're back, then you can blog about it all you like...meanwhile, please don't kill me because i already have some photos and gonna post them first lol
