RE: Eroticism I | Censorship in Art |

in #art5 years ago

For the first two parts (which I'm surprised for once that anything art with a foreign title somehow isn't French but Spanish), I shall just copy-n-cut what I responded below to another person in an attempt to expand the conversation that was under a very spidery spider:

With such an any a case, even that censorship doesn't come from a vacuum; it has to be instigated from complex indirect economic influences that are reflected through direct cultural-ideological influences. After all, the human consciousness is set as put best by Friedrich Engels, "[a]ctually, each mental image of the world system is and remains limited, objectively by the historical situation and subjectively by its author's physical and mental constitution." So the state of affairs is that there's a conflict of interests that have yet to be resolved, a contradiction one might say that society is harboring but yet not choosing to resolve such. How society chooses to move forward is dependent very much by the means that are chosen to get to there and if the end goals are even accomplished.

A hypocrisy I must say that we see many "male" nude arts being celebrated by even Catholic Church authorities (with some few exceptions like the leaves covering up the Final Judgement scene in Michelangelo's artwork for the Sistine Chapel's ceiling). In the case of "explicit" arts that definitely would've been tagged with a "Venus" for non-males, this is pretty much a hangover from the decades (dare I say even centuries) of old that has been challenged many a times - even their "insiders" had done the deed as well. Yet this ideology is still being reproduced since there's something for society to "benefit" from such a conservatism as that. That and vampires don't necessarily die if everybody moves out of the estate.

To get to the remastering of an original art piece (of which felt like some abstract sensuality / abstract impressionism / neo-post-impressionism / I'm running out of fake and real art movement names here), I must say this is very faithful while undoing the "self-censoring" of the "memory" aspect to the sensuous scene. In comparing both pictures, the trade-off for the memory's celebration (and in a double movement, dirty self-censoring) of the scene is a pretty political call for the end of censoring "sexual" arts as it depicts more clearly the scene that is being carried out here. That is to say: that for the unconscious sneering of censorship of a sexual scene became a conscious resistance to the current state of affairs that as a base from a call to a new Social Order that expands the horizons and goes beyond the limits of contemporary Social Order.

And of course the obligatory quote: "it is right to rebel against reactionaries" - Mao.

Congratulations for the @curie upvote, happy painting and happy steeming!
