When you decide that a pieces is finished.

in #art6 years ago

There is an important step in the process of work of an artist and it's the moment when the artist knows the artwork is finished. It's a special moment and it's not so simple to explain.

Just the artist can say "Now it's finished!", because just the artist who works on it knows all about that piece. Sometimes it's just a single shadow or a little, almost invisible, white dot that make me think "Ok, it's ready!".

I don't know if it's the same for other artists, but when I start a new artwork I have just a generic idea on the result that I want to have. Usually this idea grow, evolve during all the work. It's something magical and it's something I really like!

When I started to work on the idea of this artwork (Mrs. T.), I sketched the character on my sketchbook, but I didn't think about her dress, the background or something similar.

During the work, my mind and my hands collaborated in perfect harmony and so, in just few days, I finished the piece. Now I'm waiting it dry before to give them some brushstrokes of varnishing to protect it.

In the following pic you can see the first sketch close to the painting. As you can see, there are some differences.

For example, the dress of this "upper class" lady is blue in the sketch and red in the painting. This is because when I started the painting I chose to use a grey/blue for the background and so I thought a red dress can capture the attention more than other colors ;)

The last touch on the painting, the touch that make me say "It's finished", was simply to add more shadows (using the burnt earth colors) all around the character. Maybe you can think it's strange, but just adding more dark around the character I KNOW it's finished ^_^

I hope you like it ^_^

Here it's time to go to bed (or on the sofa ^_^), so a wish you a good night ^_^

Finally its finished! This is the relief point of every artist especially, when working on a arts with real life representation.
You finally wore her a red dress, different from the blue colour from the sketch. Beautiful and good job well done @silviabeneforti

Many thanks, dear friend ^_^

I don't know if it's the same for other artists, but when I start a new artwork I have just a generic idea on the result that I want to have.

This always happens to me when i'm writing posts, i know what i want to write about but i don't have any "masterplan" on how i'm going to write or what order i will write in, but in the end my hands and brain collaborate to make, what i believe to be ofc, good content xD

What are you going to do now with Mr.T drawing? Are you going to sell it? You could do some giveaways for your followers, I would love to have one of your painting in my room xD my room only has 1 painting, it's from Mexico, it's one of those drawings made with spray paints, glasses, and dishes, don't know if you know what I'm talking about.

I'm thinking to paint some other pieces based on the photos of Diane Arbus for a solo exhibition in my city, but I the idea of a giveways for followers is very interesting! I'll think about it for sure!!! Thanks ^_^

NP, always glad to give good ideas :) did you ever do a painting of a wolf? i love wolves

Beautiful piece, but I love this Picasso line on 'finishing': "To finish a work? To finish a picture? What nonsense! To finish it means to be through with it, to kill it, to rid it of its soul, to give it its final blow the coup de grace for the painter as well as for the picture."

Picasso is one of my favorite artists and I really think he was the best artist of the past century! This sentence from him is simply great, as usual ^_^

Good morning, I'd like to see an exibition with your artworks :)

I'm working for it ;) I have to paint some other pieces and after I'll propose the series for a solo exhibition in my city ^_^

This very beautiful art i appreciate drawing thanks for sharing this creativit.....

After reading your post i have to assure u that u are not alone. I am also never satisfied with my work so i constantly change it. We are more alike then u think. Take a peek at this post and my frustration, maybe u will feel better :) https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@tomista/birth-of-a-new-composition-take-a-look-and-listen-part1

Strangely, I just saw a photo of a lizard with an arrogant-aristocrat look on its face. It looks more male, but it reminded me of the expression in your painting. Not that your baroness looks like a lizard, just the expression, before you get angry 8-).
