ISCA Caricature convention pt 2

In the next few posts, I'll be sharing my caricatures in order as they appear on my contest wall.

First up, is this bearded fellow! Dylan was his name, I think.

This particular drawing came to me quickly. Sometimes you wrestle and wrestle with a face! But sometimes the caricature effortlessly reveals itself to you. This was one of those.

Perhaps it was the complete graphic quality of the face. Big beardy and hair shapes mixed with a distinct nose, then BAM! There's an instant likeness.

All in all, I was happy with this illustration. I enjoyed playing with the stripped down simplicity of it. The flow of lights and darks, the textures of the hair, and the removal of unnecessary details all were fun exercises. Also, I only used two brushes in photoshop for this illustration; a rake brush and a thick rough pencil brush. (From Kyle T. Webster and Shiyoon Kim's digital brush sets)
