Steps in my drawing "Glow in the Dark" - Pencil and Pastel Medium
First of all, I'm a very big fan of cats😍. Both domestic and wild. I really wish I had one at the moment but my schedule won't make that easy. I adore their nature of being clean, curious, smart, calm, fast, eager and sleeping most time of the day (now I wish I was a cat😃).
Due to the fact that there are other artists out there who may want to practice this form of traditional drawing, I'll give the list of materials used and what they were used for during the course of this drawing. The following materials were used;
• A white cartridge cardboard paper
• HB Pencil for the sketch and outlines
• A Natarag Eraser for erasing and giving highlights
• A charcoal pencil for creating darkness and shade
• Lemon and Deep green soft Pastel for creating the realistic eye colours and red Pastels for the nose
• A white charcoal pencil for creating highlights (strands of reflecting hair)
STEP 1
Now for the first stage of this drawing, I had to sketch out the features of the cat giving each feature its appropriate proportions.
STEP 2
Here, I began enforcing darkness and shades of the eyes with a charcoal pencil. As some of my friends here know me already, I start from the eyes then go all the way down to other parts of the body. It's quite easier like that and your chances of getting the resemblance would be pretty high. That's my trick😉.
STEP 3
Now to the second eye, I used the same medium for the shades and at this stage, both eyes are starting to look like realistic if you'd agree.👇👇👇
STEP 4
For a realistic nose, I started first with a dark underlayer, from here I'll build on the details gradually. The hair strands were done with a charcoal pencil first, then erasers and white charcoal pencils for highlights.
STEP 5
Now back to the eyes, I used my soft pastels to add colour and realism to the eyes.A lemon color for areas of light and a deep green for areas of darkness.
Here I used my soft pastels to add color and realism to the second eyes and the nose.
STEP 7
I did a general shading/ underlaying on the cheek and other parts of the face. Effects of hair strands can be created best after this step.
I then used my eraser to create highlights on the face, mouth, cheeks and whiskey. Followed by using a white charcoal and a white soft Pastel to create hair effects on the nose, cheeks and other parts of the face.
STEP 8
Now to the final stage of this drawing, I created a vignette effect using the charcoal pencil to create a realistic effect of the cat in a dark environment and then used my soft pastels to make the eyes glow better. And a white charcoal pencil for hair details and highlights on the nose.
Now I have a cat in my home that doesn't need to feed.😄😄😄
