Nicholas Roerich: "Varygs came from the north"

Yesterday I visited the exhibition of Nicholas Roerich in our museum. Among the luminous landscapes of the Himalayas stood out one canvas. Here it is: Volkhov. Ladoga. "Let our North seem poorer than other lands. Let its ancient face be closed. Let people know a little about it. The North's tale is deep and captivating. The northern winds are cheerful and cheerful. The northern lakes are pensive. The northern rivers are silvery. The dark forests are wise. The green hills are experienced “Gray stones in circles are full of miracles. The Varangians themselves came from the North. We are all looking for beautiful ancient Russia,” wrote Nikolai Konstantinovich Roerich in “Underground Russia”.
This was long before India. Volkhov and old Ladoga, "to this forgotten corner - a fragment of antiquity, accidentally preserved among the surrounding rubbish", traveling young Roerich in 1900 devotes several paintings and sketches. One of them, this one is stored in the Arkhangelsk Museum of Fine Arts.
Oh god What will remain in the memory of our descendants? Is it just garbage?

Вчера посетила выставку Николая Рериха в нашем музее. Среди светящихся пейзажей Гималаев выделялось одно полотно. Вот это: Волхов.Ладога. "Пусть наш Север кажется беднее других земель. Пусть закрылся его древний лик. Пусть люди о нём знают мало истинного. Сказка Севера глубока и пленительна. Северные ветры бодры и веселы. Северные озёра задумчивы. Северные реки серебристые. Потемнелые леса мудрые. Зелёные холмы бывалые. Серые камни в кругах чудесами полны. Сами варяги шли с Севера. Все ищем красивую древнюю Русь»- писал Николай Константинович Рерих в "Подземной Руси".
Это было еще задолго до Индии. Волхову и старой Ладоге, "этому забытому уголку – осколку старины, случайно сохранившемуся среди окрестного мусора", путешествующий молодой Рерих в 1900 году посвящает несколько картин и этюдов. Одна из них, вот эта хранится в Архангельском музее изобразительных искусств.
Боже! Что останется в памяти наших потомков? Неужели только мусор?
