Negative

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Do not be scared by the headline, it has nothing to do with negative impressions and emotions. Today is Sunday, which means time for stories about art processing.

And I would like to show and tell about the photographic negative. Do you remembered the film, the development and other joys of the photos that came to us from the past? No, I'm not talking about them. This negative I came up with myself and he concerns changing the photo.

This is one of the experiments that sometimes allows you to radically change your photos and their perception. And you can do it with one click. In fact, it is a mathematical operation, when the value of each color component is subtracted from the maximum value. For black and white photography, the effect will be similar to the film negative.

But for color photography, the effect is much deeper ... Besides the fact that lights and shadows change places, the entire color palette will change. Photography begins to be perceived differently.

Here there are regularities. For example, if the original image has problems with a common color tone, then they will remain in the negative as well. Too light a picture will become unnecessarily dark, and almost always loses its appeal. But photos with large dark areas will start to glow. In general, the effect of "glowing" shadows is interesting in itself. I even had my thoughts beforehand to take pictures under negatives.

With today's technologies, the camera itself can display on the screen in real time not the original image, but a modified picture. So, for example, mirrorless display multiexposition. Unfortunately, the manufacturers of cameras have not yet made a decisive step in this direction - there is no regular possibility to create plug-ins for cameras.
I know only about one trial project at Olympus ...

All the pictures in this post are just negatives of my usual photos.
If desired, you can easily reverse them and compare them with the original.
Agree in this interpretation, all the images look quite different. What is important is not worse, not better, but differently.

I'm sure that I would take a picture if ever I see anything like this too. This is amazing. This is brave creativity since some people may think it's crazy.

and if you do this a lot, you develope a sense for what works and what doesn't.
Nice tutorial/inspiration @narchuk!

Yes, i can get used to picking up winning stories.
True, when using flares, it is rather difficult.

I love what the inversion did to that lobster photo, and especially how it turns the shadows of the next photo into underlighting. Great "experiments"!
