Daily doodle - Glazing Practice

in #art6 years ago

Greetings 😃

Today, I attempted two different techniques for adding depth with watercolors - negative painting and multiple masking.

Attempt 1 - Negative painting. I tried making this easier on myself by picking a simple leaf shape, but I started making the background leaves too small and before long, there was a lot to paint around - and this paper definitely wasn't helping my cause.

Attempt 1 - Multiple masking. Again, I believe the paper I used was to my detriment here - after 2 glazes, I almost seemed to pick up more color than I was putting down.

I'm not thrilled with today's results, but definitely looking forward to attempting these again.

Painted on a 6" x 6" piece of Canson watercolor paper, using Mijello Mission Gold Watercolors and Silver Brush Black Velvet #6. I also used a white Sakura GellyRoll pen.

Photos taken with my Pixel 2.

Thanks for looking!
