The Vagabonds - interactive paintings - Season 2: the Conclusion!
The Vagabonds is/was an interactive game here on Steemit, based on the characters of my own, original paintings.
In this second season, I first presented eight original paintings of my fantasy-characters. In the first phase, you could decide on a name, randomly choose a postive trait, a negative trait and choose a superpower/weapon of your choice. One winner was chosen among all the entries and that specific Vagabond would go on to Phase 2.
In that second phase of the game, two Vagabonds were pitched against eachother in weird contests, strange games and baffling matches. You could write a scenario on how that contest would turn out. Again, one winner was chosen every time. After the Quarter-Finals, we had the Semi-Finals and eventually, the Grand Final.
These eight Vagabonds went into battle to see who is/was the Grand Vagabond of Them All:
Eloise, the Everlasting Vampire-Hunter won from Shelly, the Romantic but Tired Sidekick in a Match of Frantic Fencing.
Monica, the Neighbourly but Predictive Duchess won a match of Paintball to Zilong, the Courageous but Lovesick Samurai.
Mutia, the Allmighty but Tiresome Heretic won a Cuddling Contest To-The-Death against Pattimura, the Dandy but Schizofrenic Ladies' Man.
Droopy, the Unstoppable but Apologetic Vampire won a Race to the Last Rescue-Boat on the Titanic against Caern, the Formidable but Lazy Octogenarian.
In the Semi-Finals:
Monica, the Duchess beat Eloise, the Vampire-Hunter in a match to see who could Swallow the most Swords.
and Mutia, the Heretic somehow vanquished Droopy, the Vampire in a game to see who could Stand the Longest on a narrow Post.
Some thoughts, ideas, conclusions to this epic Vagabond-game, as I'm wrapping up...
- It was major fun!
- I put a helluvalot work in Phase 1, some less in Phase 2
- I thoroughly enjoyed bringing this to steemit!
- Whereas the interaction in the first phase was easy to play along (enter a name, 3 random numbers and a superpower of your choice) and I got up to 15 players playing the game, the interaction in the second phase was way more demanding of the players, requiring to write a comment on how the match would/could possibly play out. I may have overestimated some players and contributors to Phase 1, expecting them to go along in the story-writing. I will re-consider this in the next game.
- That being said, three very determined players absolutely went all the way, for just about every Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final. I salute you guys with the glass of Rosé I'm currently drinking. they are:
- @edward.maesen, the Experimentalist and Contemporary Wizard whose Mind can Enter Untangible Dimensions
- @junsusukhairi, the Down-to-Earth and Verbose Raconteur with a Knack for the Hack 'n Slash (I do hope that translates okay!)
- @fraenk, the Enthusiastic and Omniscient Weaver of Storylines from the Realms of Niflheim since the Days that Time Forgot
I'm sending you guys some STEEM, not SBD this time. I thank you big, bigtime for following through on The Vagabonds. I didn't expect so much time would go into this, and I didn't expect so much fun would come from this!
So, now then. Then Now! how did that final go?
First of all, it was @edward.maesen's entry, writing a (I daresay it again) beautiful story on how all the Vagabonds come together and listen to old/young Caern's wisdom. I loved that, also because nobody really wins, nobody becomes the Grand Vagabond...
Then, @junsusukhairi wrote a novella, describing an epic battle between the two protagonists, in which not only Monica is healed of her blindness (inflicted in one of his own stories!) but also wins the Grand Match versus Mutia!
Finally, @fraenk decided to turn the tables against me, letting me choose my own adjectives and objects in my own game, and constructed a finale of his own, which was the ultimate twist of events in this game! And which resulted in a major upset, stealing the sure-as-heck-victory for Monica to a Germany-esque victory for Mutia.
So, for the final, it's Mutia: 1 point, Monica 1 point, Nobody: 1 point.
I cannot let the dice decide this one, so as both Monica and Mutia score 1, it's technically a draw, which means nobody wins, which means everybody wins, which means all the vagabonds listen to Caern's wisdom and they all go off to a happy place.
Thank you all, again, for this very fun, very interactive game. Thank you all for watching, reading, upvoting and resteeming, there may be a season 3 of these Vagabonds, but I may be trying some other game/thingamajig in the meantime, hope you had fun! :)
let me know in the comments!
11:11 ;)
Wow... @marty-art... those Vagabonds were a truly amazing ride!
My applause to you for hosting the spectacular birth of a one-of a kind co-coincidental crowd-created universe under the curtains of your wickedly fascinating artwork and it's mysteriously magical characters!
What a sentence!
I agree the second phase might have been asking for a lot from the players and I guess that does not suite the average attention span of steemit's audience.
But I for one loved the experience, the challenge, the exchange, the inspiration...
I'll extend my thanks to everyone who played along, especially my two co-authors in the finals:
Those who bailed on their own Vagabonds: You gave them their weapons and attributes, you even gave them their names... and then, once they actually needed your help, you dropped them like hot potatoes. The corner of shame is over to your left, you can sit down over there and continue to be quiet!
@edward.maesen, @hazel420, @junsusukhairi and myself, were're going to grab some drinks from the imaginary minibar and celebrate the happy ending with all eight Grand Vagabonds, @marty-art himself, and everyone else who just watched and voted.
Hehe, yeah, it was quite the ride, so thanks for riding along! Thanks for co-creating all the storylines and even taking it further than I intended at the final there :D
See you at that minibar!
Now Then! (it's actually at 21:14-21:25, but I can't seem to get it right...)
Then now, I finally understand where that came from, too :P
Yeah, I figured that needed some closure too. Now then :D
Ah Blackadder! That brings back memories. Wow, I loved that series!
Hahaha, so we have Twin Peaks and Blackadder in common!
I used to listen to Blackadder-episodes while painting, it made the experience more hilarious than serious :)
Ah interesting trivia :)
Yeah, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Monthy Python, The Young Ones... that's what I grew up with. Good old English humour.
Thank you for challenging me to enter this finale! if it weren't for your comment, I might not have taken the time to think of a story!
It was a pleasure to read your fabrications, and those of @junsusukhairi as well :)
hehe... well... you're welcome! I'm glad I got you back into the game then... the finals would have been a bit lonely without you ;)
Likewise! And I was inspired by your writings. So thanks!
Thanks for organizing this game! It was truly fun to participate in, and I had no idea what fantastical stories were lurking in my mind :)
My pleasure, and glad you enjoyed! Good to see I got those stories out, I really appreciate the time and effort you took to write them out :)
Hope to see you in the next quirky game/experiment!
I'll keep an eye out for your posts... but... it took me 2-3 hours to write each phase II story so I'm not sure if I can get involved to the same level again.
Then again, again then, it was great fun to do... so who knows :D
Hey, that's cool - I realize it was a bit demanding for the players. I underestimated that, so I'm not going to ask for such an involvement again ;)
