Last Night #1 - painting series based on zombies-game: prologue - 7pm - 8pm

in #art7 years ago (edited)

What would a night be like when a zombie-invasion actually happened? What would you do? What would I do?

After playing the game "Last Night on Earth" - a zombie survival boardgame - I was so hooked on the game that I was inspired to make a series of paintings depicting the terror and sense of dread of a zombie invasion. So I made a painting for every hour from 7pm to 7am and how that night would feel like. This is how I envisioned the first - and last? - night on earth in my paintings. I appreciate any and all (relevant!, not generic, my dear) comments, upvotes and resteems, thank you!

Episode one: prologue - 7 pm - 8 pm. Enjoy. Or be afraid.

Last Night: prologue

THUD!

THUD!

"Somebody at the door? I wonder who... I'm really not expecting anybody. Let's go and s..."

CRASH!

As I enter the hallway and step to the front door, there's a man there - the front door is smashed. This doesn't look't good...

"Whoaw, wait a minute, what's going on..? Oi! You, hold it right there!"

This is uncanny: I don't know who that is, but he shouldn't be entering my house. Wait. He's slow. He looks like he's...

UNGH

...coming at me... Is he sick? In need of help? Can I help? No, he's trying to attack me, gotta get out of here!

Quickly I run to the back door...

Last Night: 7 P.M.

It's a good thing I have a big backyard. Whow, wait. There's more of them out here. They're not sick... Not in danger. I'm the one in danger here... I don't know what they want, but I've got to get out of here... Quickly!

Running to the sheds, they seem confused by my speed and lose track of me. Let's hide in the barn and see...

Last Night: 8 P.M.

I've managed to stay out here and these... things have finally cought up with me... What's going on? Is it me being attacked, or is this some epidemic going on? I don't know. I know how to hide, though. Let's wait it out, although I'm not comfortable going back to my house...

I should get out of here alltogether. Find my neighbours, find my friends. And fast! Find a TV or radio to hear if there's any news...

Should I go out to the fields? I think so, yes. Let's go.

Are you afraid? Intrigued? Fascinated? Wondering what the night will bring?
Episode 2 continues the story, going from 9pm to 11 pm... coming tomorrow! Thanks for reading & watching!

Just wanted to add: this is not an interactive game (which I have done with Nocturn and will gladly do again) but a series of paintings following the night of a zombie invasion.

This will be just a story in roundabout 6 or 7 episodes, as I don't have enough paintings on this subject to make a choose-your-own-adventure. If you do enjoy this, let me know in the comments, then I might go for another adventure-game in this subject & style.

Then again, I'm thinking of different subjects to paint and present a steemit-exclusive adventure game soon :) Leave a comment, much appreciated!

Unfortunately I am a WALKING DEAD fan (or I was until it moved to a paying channel) so that keeps plaguing my mind when I think zombies. It's hard to be original with that theme. Paintings are great, as always. I like third one with a little colour introduced. It really made the atmosphere of hiding from the zombies.

Thanks @deemarshall! What I find the most interesting in the zombie-genre is the anxiety - never knowing what's going to happen. The gore I couldn't care about.

While painting these I constantly listened to the movie Night of the Living Dead (not watching it though, as I didn't want to beinfluenced by the visuals). It was tense to paint but a fun experience :)

Maybe the gore wouldn't fit with your eye as I notice you usually paint in a monochrome style. He he, I can imagine you in costume too, painting so good.
Last night I watched the movie 'Personal Shopper' directed by Olivier Assayas. There is a fleeting scene where Maureen sees her twin's ectoplasm. It looks very similar to your interpretations in Nocturn.

Going to check that out, too, thank you! On a similar note, we watched Downton Abbey a few days ago and there was a shot - it lasted only a few seconds but was so striking in tone and atmosphere. Gotta keep your eyes open for these little gems :) thank you!

It's about 35 mins in to movie.

This is amazing. Great work @marty-art! Definitely following you now! Looking forward to more. Check out an original painting I posted today: https://steemit.com/art/@stanhopeofficial/push-pull-an-original-panting

Thank you very much @stanhopeofficial! I hope to post some paintings and story every evening here. It's gonna be a dark night, thanks for following!
