Metal Clay Art
Small-scale sculpture, a bronze and copper Ammonite Creature:

While looking for a purple picture for the color challenge, I happened upon the mold making picture below. I sometime use natural objects in my little sculptures. In this case, it was an ammonite fossil I purchased a while back. I molded both sides of the fossil with two-part silicone molding mix; you basically combine two compounds and push it over an object before it sets.

I push bronze metal clay into the molds to create a two-sided, hollow form. The sides are joined with moist clay and then further dried. It is then sanded and filed for refinement. I freehand sculpted the animal that fits in the shell out of copper clay. As you might have guessed, I haven’t shown all the steps here. This is just an example of what can be done with metal clay.
