Gift Giving of School Supplies and Art Materials at Panlabuhan Floating School - Agusan Marsh

Last 3 months ago, I shared to you my “One Humbling Experience at the Agusan Marsh” wildlife sanctuary. Agusan Marsh, I may say, was among the most unique trip I treasured during my #ByahengMindanaw years. It wasn’t just that usual destination one can experience, it was also among one of our many trips where, we shared some gifts and love.

Our Byaheng Mindanaw team together with Pens of Hope in Davao shared some love by means of gift giving at the Panlabuhan floating Village, an ancestral domain of the Manobo indigenous people at the heart of Agusan Marsh. In case you didn’t know, Agusan Marsh is known as the natural home of Philippine Crocodiles. It’s where Lolong, the world’s largest crocodile in Captivity’s natural habitat.

Together with different Travel bloggers from Mindanao, particularly Davao, Koronadal and General Santos City, Pens of Hope in Davao Distributed school supplies to 38 students from Daycare to Grade 3 at the Sikat Panlabuhan Primary School. Sikat Panlabuhan Primary school is a floating building that has two classrooms and follows a multi-grade teaching system where one teacher handles different grade levels in one classroom.

The distribution was nothing grand. We just gathered the kids inside the classroom along with their parents. A few introduction and awareness about Pens of Hope’s advocacy. From our vision to mission and where the donations came from. Then teacher Ann(the woman in orange shirt) led an action song for the kids to be more comfortable.

Ate Lei, one of our art teacher, volunteer and a travel blogger, handed the writing materials to the kids who are patiently lining up waiting for their turn.

We also have coloring sets which we did not include into the packed writing materials since the supply was not enough to all the kids. Hence, we just left the crayons, paper pads, colored pencils and colored pens to teacher Ann. She said, it will be used by the students during their art activities.
