A Quality Painting Overpowers A Massive Count of Common Ones

We may practice art in a technical manner in months/years but what about its content or concept?

Some may draw/paint whatever there is on their mind and they can call themselves as an expressive artist. Some may look at a certain view and draw/paint it and they are labeled impressionist. Some may throw paints on the canvas then creates a wild painting and call themselves abstract artist. Some stick to classical and some to modern.

Here is a painting of mine which i believe has a Quality concept and good technique. It took me 2yrs to learn how to mix and blend colors and it took me 2 months to finish such small piece.

At first I sketched on the canvas with thin lines so that i will not have problems covering it. I used oilpaint for better quality of painting because it is very easy to manipulate(for me). Thus, it was never easy to paint such detail for it must be near to perfect for it to be appreciated.

I started painting the boy.

i challenged myself to take a closer look to each and every detail. These children wears a native attire here in the Philippines particularly in Mindanao. The girl is leaning to the boy. Meaning the girl relies on the boy. Through simple gestures i believe that it would mean a lot depending on its placement.

Here in the Philippines there is a very common saying "Ang kabataan ang pag'asa ng bayan(the youth is the hope of our fatherland)" thats why i painted these young ones to depict such meaning.

I painted a big red halo behind them for a reason that color red draws eyes quickly. Meaning that halo means importance since i want my viewers to take a look at the childrens facial expression in front of the red halo.

i use Malstick to put my hand on so that i could avoid wet paints and to relax my hand as well. I also painted crowns above their head to signify that their tribe were the original settlers of this land.

Heres a photo of me doing the painting. I usually paint with just my aprons (with pants ofcourse) and I really love working without anyone around me for me to keep my momentum.

The origami of a bird on my painting means artificial hope. Nowadays there are few people who talks about hope for these children but it doesnt collide with their actions. They say flowery words for the children to believe that there is actually hope but these people know its a false hope. (sorry for depicting a sad reality)

And there it is! A painting of mine titled "Sentient". I painted this to send awareness for us to be responsive or conscious enough to see through the struggles of these children particularly in indigenous people. Hoping we could be sensitive enough for these matters and hopefully change our perspective.

My struggle here is not the technique but the concept itself. It took me some time to conceptualize and to find perfect images for this painting.
