Monster Ant | 3D model for my app "FutureAR"
Hey Steemians
First of all, I looked up some ant reference pictures. With these images I began modeling the ant in Maya. Maya is a professional 3D suit. Because I wanted to use the ant as a character with animations, I had to rig the whole ant. "Rigging" means to create a "skeleton" with joints which can be moved with the mesh. After I was done, it looked like this:
Then I needed textures. For this step, I exported the ant to a program called Substance Painter 2. Inside Substance Painter you can texture a 3D model. It wasn't that hard to texture the ant because a ant is mostly black. So I used some shiny leather like texture. The eyes have a hexagon texture on it, which in my opinion gives a really cool look.
