Inspired Art - 'Dream Painting'

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I frequently spend hours and hours 'working' on paintings in my sleep, but I ordinarily I do not remember what they look like when I awaken.

One night in particular I awoke from a rather spectacular dream in which I’d found a case full of my own ‘forgotten’ paintings: there were about 20 in total, and they were all of a similar style – one in which I have never painted during my waking life…As I woke, I vividly remembered it - pulling the paintings out of a 'secret room' and marvelling over how I could have forgotten all about them...

Driven and inspired, I leaped out of bed and grabbed a canvas, determined to try to replicate the paintings I had seen before their essence faded…

My paintings usually take many sessions to complete, but this one was finished on the day I started it - I spent the entire day coming back to it, layer after layer as it dried, because I needed to complete it whilst I still remembered the style that I'd dreamed! I was so utterly absorbed in this work that I completely forgot to take any 'work in progress' shots...

The finished artwork really does look like the style of the paintings from my dream, and I absolutely love it. In fact, this dream-inspired painting was a turning point in my art, taking me in a new direction - away from purely 'organic' looking pieces into paintings incorporating strong, bold lines and shapes and elements which tell a strong story. It's also become one of my best-selling and most-favourited images, so I guess other people find my 'dream painting' appealing too.

With love,

Jay

Hmmmm perhaps a little Miro, a little Kandinsky... I love it! More of your work I'd be so happy to see hanging in my house :-)

Thank you for the lovely comments, @woman-onthe-wing - I really appreciate your positive response ❤

Mine too ❤ xx

OH my gosh @jaytaylor. I REALLY love this. It's so my style--something I would do. I love the layers and layers and colors and textures and use of materials and transparency through the paint.....it's really a beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing it here. I can relate to being in the zone and bypassing the photographs of the process. Excited to see more of your play!

Check out some of my posts if you wish. I've shared a little of my play. Would be really fun to do a collaborative piece!?!?

Thank YOU for this response - you really made me smile ❤ I'd love to see your creative adventures - I'll have a look through your Steemit posts... I'd love to collaborate on something - we'll have to figure out how to work together 'across the pond'!

Wouldn't that be a trip!! I can imagine something amazing coming of the combination of two unschooling mindsets with similar creative spirits. Perhaps there is someway we could instigate collaboration on a grander scale, or share a piece when finished by auction, or......??? I'm not too good at the on-line reality and digital techy stuff. But I'm game for creative play! Any ideas?

My Dad lives in Texas, and as it happens is visiting with us for the next couple of weeks... Maybe I could send an unfinished piece back to Texas with him and you could work your magic on it...? I'd be happy to auction it off as a collaborative piece (here on Steemit or elsewhere if you've other avenues over there?), and I'd also be happy for the proceeds to go to TGOE. Maybe a small % to me for my daughter's unschooling fun fund?

Or some other idea/s - that's just the first thing that springs to mind! Open to the endless possibilities... :o) xx

Thank you! ❤

Love the spirit that can be felt in this painting Jay. The more you look the more you see. The details ~ Works in their own right ~ Especially love the shapes and the open space in the last one. Dream imagery can be so powerful and the attempt to bring it into being must have solidified something in yourself as well. I find this work totally inspiring.

Thank you, @allyinspirit - I think that you and I are 'kindred spirits' ❣
