Title: Barn Owl at Night
Medium: Watercolor on Watercolor paper (300gsm)
Year: 2018
This is the third owl painting I made.
I'm very happy with how this came out.
PROCESS
I'll just keep this simple, my process is always light to dark. I only use three paintbrushes, flap edge, round tip and a small and pointy one for details.
- Plan out your sketch and be sure about what to draw. I love the style and the pose of the barn owl here.
- Work little by little.
The glowy stars I got from my last owl painting. Although this is a bit more pale compared to the older one.
Final Outcome
I took this picture using our Nikon Digi cam.
This is definitely clearer!
The stars are white this time to not deviate from realistic appearance, and also to not take away from my main subject.

Some useful watercolor tips
To avoid dullness, Don't be afraid to add much pigment or darken the colors, once it dries it goes lighter.
Always have an extra tissue paper to wipe the excess water/ paint. Stay neat and clean.
Have an extra tube or palette of white paint. Chinese white maybe, incase you run out.
You can wait and let your painting dry to know where to work again and how to define colors more.

ooooooooohh this is awesome :D even in the process when you added mid-tones the owl looked amazing, but in the finised piece the owl pops out so good it looks better than owls in real life :D
