in #art6 years ago

This is all about art portfolios and art exhibits✔️

The following are basic Q&A on portfolios and exhibits hopefully it helps the curious artist.

These information about the said topic was discussed by Amanda Echevarria plus, I did my own research to add more information.

1. What is an art portfolio?

🎨 An art portfolio is a collection of an artist's best work.

🎨 Often referred to as a lookbook.

🎨 Showcases an artist's different mediums and best works.

🎨 Shows employers an artist's skills, versatility, and range.

🎨 Serves as your application to any visual arts related work or exhibits.

Art portfolios need to look good. It's presenting who you are as an artist and how good you are in one brief collection.

2. What is inside an art portfolio?

(A) Artist profile🎨
An artist's profile will be a page or two about who you are as an artist and the kind of art you make.

How to write an Artist's Profile?

(B) Artist statement
I have one example here:

There are two kinds we see here, one written in first person and the others - third person.
Choose whichever you like although thr latter is more formal, sounds formal.

(C) Sample works - best works that feature your abilities. Below your artwork on the page, some details can be put (optional):

  • title
  • medium
  • price

My example:
Since my artist statement and description of works is based on my philippine eagle artwork, I'll use it here

Title: Pithecophaga Jefferyi
Medium: Coloredpencils
Size: 12" x 16"
Year: 2018
Price: ₱3,000.00

Just for example purposes, each page on your collection will have this. Use only your best artworks. This one is my most recent wildlife art.

(D) Newspaper clippings:

What if the newspaper is too big? Or the clip is too big?

  • If you can find a clipping that fits your paper, clip it in!
  • Take a photo of it, reprint it so it fits the scale like the image above.
  • If you have access to the softcopy of the newsprint, have it printed and credit the source.

You can choose the clearest one. With my two examples the first one is better.

Also, you can state in your portfolio if a certain artwork has been sold and to whom it was sold.

but why?

  • This is for future reference. Some instances, the government or any institution might want to recollect your art, you have a record of it.

WHAT TO DO WITH AN ART EXHIBIT

All exhibits must be prepared for and then documented, as tedious and lengthy the task, it is best done that way.

Some requirements:

  • The artist

  • The venue

  • The artwork

  • The announcement of the exhibit to come via online or word of mouth.

  • Systematic pricelist

  • Exhibit booklet

This is a compilation of the artists details and artwork:
    ✔️A marketing scheme
    ✔️And a good documentation

So far, these secure the success of your exhibit.
The people who run the exhibit can plan the programs and activities such as ours:

This was the last workshop we had, about Rt portfolios and exhibits.
We also tackled about HOW TO PROPERLY REPRESENT FILIPINO ETHNIC CULTURE.
I will write about that in my next post.

To be continued.
