Using HDR mode of cellphone camera for sunset shooting, see the results!

Hi, I’m Hossein musician and photographer, today I want to share with you a very fun experience of cellphone HDR photography, so the other day me and my friend went to a lake nearby called Chitgar lake, there was a cafe shop in the second floor which has very beautiful view of the lake and it was about the sunset time as I enjoyed my tea and the view I took these shoots.

So, what is HDR? And how can we benefit from it as this mode exist in most of the new cellphones.

High-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI) is a high dynamic range (HDR) technique used in imaging and photography to reproduce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than what is possible with standard digital imaging or photographic techniques. The aim is to present a similar range of luminance to that experienced through the human visual system. The human eye, through adaptation of the iris and other methods, adjusts constantly to adapt to a broad range of luminance present in the environment. The brain continuously interprets this information so that a viewer can see in a wide range of light conditions.

All of above means that camera dynamic range is limited which means it can’t handle bright light and dark shadows at the same time, with HDR technique we enhance the dynamic range of the camera so we can take photos that include bright light source and shadows and we can get details in the highlights.
In order to see the difference between photos with HDR and without this technique I took these photos with my friend’s phone and as you can see there is not much of detail in these pictures.
