Episode 2 - Original He-Man animation artwork - Background Art & a Signed Cel!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #art7 years ago (edited)

In this post i want to share some background art and a very special SIGNED frame i found in the pile of artwork! I hope you enjoy it and have lots of good memories as we take a trip back into the world of early 80's cartoons!
This is part 2 of the first post of original He-Man artwork i acquired a few years ago.

Background Art

Here's some more background scenes from the cartoon series. The classic and distinct He-Man artwork style of the jumbled jungle and bright colours is on full display!

From Episode 26 - "Ordeal in the Darklands"

Panorama Background
This is a cool one, it's about 3x the size of a normal background & cel.
You can see in the gif below from the episode 'Creatures From The Tar Swamp' how they used the long background to pan across while Man-At-Arms and Teela are being attacked by some sort of Chicken-Dactyl.

Orko Escapes into a Room
Some classic background art from Skeletors 'Snake Mountain' fortress - Note the horns which means it's the bad guys place. From episode 106 "The Bitter Rose"

The folders the cels came in
The box of art that i bought contained a bunch of folders that come from FILMATION studios showing the signatures and dates of production from the artists who worked on them. You can see the full date 11/15/83 on this folder - almost 34 years ago!

Found a signed cel by Lou Scheimer

I found a cel amongst the many which has been signed by Lou Scheimer (see below). Not sure why this one cel is signed but it was pretty cool to know these have come from Filmation and been in the possession of Lou Scheimer at some point!
First, a bit about Lou Scheimer:

Louis "Lou" Scheimer (October 19, 1928 – October 17, 2013) was an American producer, one of the original founders of Filmation, an animation company, and also credited as an executive producer of many of its cartoons.
Scheimer played a significant role in the creation of the cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Bravestarr. Aside from being the executive producer, he was also co-credited for the series' musical score under the pseudonym "Erika Lane" (which combined the names of his daughter Erika and son Lane). He became a voice actor for the show (as he had done for many of his company's previous productions), going under the pseudonym "Erik Gunden". Scheimer's contribution to the cast was in fact most notable as he voiced several supporting characters, including Orko (and other characters with a similar Smurfs-voice), Stratos, King Randor and others. The reason producer Lou Scheimer performed the voices for so many supporting characters was that the 'official' voice actors were contracted to perform no more than three different voices per episode. And since there were usually only three regular cast members working on each show, Lou would fill in the rest of the male cast. Scheimer voiced characters for other Filmation cartoons besides He-Man. Most notably, he provided the voice to "Dumb Donald" on the long-running Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. - Source:Wikipedia

This is so cool. Amazing there was so much info and a signed cell in there! I'm fairly certain you got one hell of a deal!!!

Wow, great post. I used to collect a lot of 1980's action figures and He-Man was probably one of the first I ever got. I'll check out your other post, this takes me back. I unfortunately sold most of my MOTU collection on eBay a few years back...

Yeah i had a bunch of toys too, my friend had the Castle Greyskull which was pretty cool.
All my figures got chewed up by our great dane dog! (along with my original X-wing, Vader, hoth Skywalker....)
It's tempting to buy them again actually after going through this animation and remembering back to those days.

Great again, waiting for more magic from box :) !

We're just scratching the surface!
