The art of Steel

in #art6 years ago

A few years ago I saw a piece of rusted steel and the texture was so amazing. I wanted to explore it and see if I could produce something new. I learned quickly that the rusting of steel is called patina or patination. I saw rusty rat rods, rusty yard art, pieces of rusty metal hanging on a wall and I wanted to be able to control the rust.

So I set out on a journey to discover how to create art using nothing but rust and chemicals that cause steel to rust quickly. In this journey, I began mixing chemicals, water and time.

My experiments led me to create the artwork that I would like to share with you over the next couple weeks. Note that in all of these, the color you see is the oxidizing of metal. There is no paint on them at all. Just the beautiful colors produced as steel rusts under certain conditions.

I hope you al enjoy and I look forward to sharing more of my artwork and creations with you.

Enjoy!

Copper is lovely to work with and reminds me of Zambia 🇿🇲.. works really well with emeralds..my father - awesome artist. One of his best pieces was using a Bunsen burners a flame 🔥 on the balsa wood he used for model making .. he made it into a 3D Mondrian and it had burns on it .. like a habitat shabby chic thing .., funny how that timeless look never gets better .. like something unique and just art .. genuine art

Fantastic. I haven't worked with copper yet. Only steel. I have a few pieces of copper that I will try out when I get my new patina chemicals. If you ever want to share your father's art please do. I love seeing what people create.
