Handles and Knobs from Lanhydrock
Lanhydrock is a beautiful National Trust property near Bodmin, Cornwall. Because, on the map, it looks a bit in the middle of nowhere I got it into my head that it would be less busy, on Easter Sunday, than some of the more obvious tourist towns. Wrong!!!
Of course, it was just as busy as everywhere else. Maybe even more so since it was raining and it offered a chance of fun indoors.
On arrival John and I explored the gardens for a bit but then headed into the house as the rain got heavier.
In the kitchens I noticed him taking close up shots of small details and suddenly realised he had been inspired by @kus-knee's mundane art theme this week which is handles and knobs. (No smirking from the Brits please! 😁)
Having been reminded, I then got busy myself and ended up with some lovely shots which left me in a bit of a quandary as to which one to enter into the contest, as you can only enter one.
Since @kus-knee's contest blurb included:
Don't just focus on the beauty of the handle but on the overall composition . . . The point is that we are looking for art. Something that you'd like to see hanging on the wall.
I decided to go for this one:
Be sure to click on the image to view it full screen!
I think it fits the arty criteria nicely since you can see me reflected in the brass plate of the handle, taking the photo and you can see the window reflected behind me.
I also like the texture in the old varnish.
The handle was found on a Victorian "fridge".
Close second came this one which is actually my favourite:

I just love the yumminess of the textures surrounding this Victorian brass pantry latch.
And here are the other contenders in order of my personal preference:

Sadly, I didn't make notes of exactly what these handles/knobs were on.
The bottom one was an oven door in the cast iron range and the others were on various pieces of equipment in the kitchens.
I will endeavour to get better at this and note down what I am photographing when I am actually taking the shot, in future. But don't hold your breath. I get so engrossed in what I am seeing! 😁
I like all your images. The design of that second latch is neat. I'd like to see that in action. When I see such variety of hardware, it helps me know there is more than one way to do something. And even if other folks have done 18 versions of something already, my own take on it still might be worthwhile. Just think of all that inventiveness and follow-through that went into those latches. It gets me going, lol. : )
Glad you enjoyed it @haphazard-hstead. It's nice to have your posts appreciated!
Thank you for visiting and for leaving such a thoughtful comment! 😊
I would have chosen the last one although I would have focused it out a bit to get more context within the scene... talking about grey haha here you are :P
The rest of the pieces are precious as of part of old stuff I adore. However I would work with light as it burns some of the image and makes it loose focus. That brilliant stuff it's hard to control reflections which also distracts our attention. lol seems as if I knew something about what I'm talking about hahaha, forgive me XD
Yeah, I know I should be sweet and honey but then It wouldn't be me.
Good luck on the contest, keep on steeming ;)
If I'd focussed out the last one the knob would probably have been too small to notice and that had to be the subject of the photograph, for the contest @drakernoise.
Not sure how I can work with light. It's inside and you are not allowed to use flash in National Trust properties. The pieces were where they were and couldn't be moved. 😂
The reflections in the first photograph were deliberate. Not sure if that's the one you were referring too. Again, that was mentioned as a plus for a photograph for the contest. An that's why I chose that one rather than my favourite one.
I thought you were "sweet and honey". This is a new side I'm seeing! Ha. ha, ha! 😂
thank you, as always for your contribution to the conversation. It is much appreciated. 😍
I think your camera has some config options on this subject( light). I do it easily with a slider over the screen but surely your's would be different.
If all fails you can always ask for help someone else to hold something to cover the object from direct light XD
About the knob zooming, I meant a bit enough to show the whole border of the little door as an example...
As you can see I have some arguments to defend my position with... hahaha
Hope this "new side" helps you improve whatever it is 😂
That sounds like way too much work for me @drakernoise. I'm fundamentally a "can't be assed" kind of person! 😂 I simply do not care enough. 😁
I hope my low standards don't disappoint you too much and you can continue to tolerate my "good enough" stance. 😂
lol
Love your low standards :D
😙
Okay, I won't ask questions about what's in the pictures then. :)
In all seriousness, getting caught up in capturing the moment is easy to do. The hardest part is getting information to go with it. That's happened to me more than once, with the newspapers, where it was pretty important there be more detail, like names of people, the place, date, etc. Things can happen pretty quickly and you can miss out on things if you're trying to track down the information.
I would have had a hard time picking an image. They all look really nice, especially your favorite one. I probably would have gone with it.
Regardless, I'm glad to see you making the most of an otherwise dreary day. I've found that the places I think are going to be the most sparse (and thus the place to go) is where everyone with the exact same thought ends up. Better to go to the usually crowded places, I guess.
You could ask questions about what's in the pictures @glenalbrethsen but I won't be able to answer them! 😁
Seems like we have similar taste in images since you've chosen my favourite too. 😊
As I grow older I appreciate the character of the world around me. What I once saw as old and worn, I now see as a piece of art with a story. Thanks for sharing these great photos.
Glad you liked the photographs @sumatranate. I certainly enjoyed taking them.
Thanks for stopping by! 😁
Interesting art. I do art too hehe. Thanks for sharing. I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold. Happy Easter 2018.
Thank you @joeyarnoldvn. Happy belated Easter to you too! 😊
Glad you decided to share the rest. I spend a lot of my Steemit time looking at photos. These are great. I think they all would do well as wall art, maybe even as a set.
Thank you @headchange. I'm glad you like them. I agree they make a nice set. It was hard to choose which one to use in the contest out of the first three! 😊
Thank you for visiting. 😊
Yeah I would have trouble choosing they are all great. You probably picked the best one the reflection adds so much depth. Good luck 😍
Thank you @headchange. Fingers crossed! 😁
I really liked the second photo and the last photo where the cast iron product. @gillianpearce, I wish you good luck in this contest.
Oh no @madlenfox. I hope @kus-knee doesn't agree with you because I like the second one best too. But I thought the first one matched the criteria of the competition better. 😂
I'm not a professional photographer but photos are good, with a lot of details, sharpness, and shine.
Thank you @seckorama. Glad you like them! 😊
How interesting!! I love the last one on your blog!
oh dear @kimmiecfields. A number of people like that last one too. I hope that @kus-knee doesn't agree with you as only the top one will count in the countest! 😊
Good luck!!
Thank you @kimmiecfields. 😊
