Experience the 2018 Kuyamis Art Exhibit

in #art6 years ago (edited)

Hello guys! I am back again after being gone for -- a day. Chos! I really spent my entire Friday cleaning the house and doing the laundry. It was tiring but it was all worth it I must say. And I love being a Cinderella too once in a while.

By the way, for today we will be having a Art Feature and I call it Gail's Art Feature. As you can observe, I made the photos personalized and even the cover photo for this post. I will be applying it to my future posts as well. I hope I would not be a lazy bum.

Why this initiative Gail?

I have always wanted to initiate something like this to give spotlight to artists who are way better than me. It is also a way for them to be known. By doing such art feature, we will also learn a lot from their techniques. Do not worry, I will be discussing about it later.

Kuyamis Festival and the Artists

This art exhibit is in line with the on-going Kuyamis Festival. This year actually marks its 88th year of founding Misamis Oriental. Such a young town province right?

Kuyamis Festival by the way is a pilot project of Governor Yevgenny 'Bambi' Emano when he took office as the provincial governor of Misamis Oriental.

According to the news, the Local Government Unit has spent 4 million pesos for this long week event. Pretty big right? Well, I think that is enough because there are actually a lot of activities that needed to be funded.

According to the Bulletin Board, Miss Kuyamis (a beauty pageant that showcases some of the beautiful and fine ladies of Misamis Oriental) has been commenced at the Capitol grounds. There is also Miss Gay Kuyamis.

Aside from those that were mentioned, there are different booths that showcases products from respective towns. Every town are to showcase their one unique product, this is called OTOP or One Town One Product. My cousin from Department of Trade and Industy [DTI] has briefly discussed about this to me.

Paintings and Photographs

Misamis Oriental's theme is Eplore MisOr that is why last Thursday, an art and photography exhibit was held with the live band Dayeg at Ayala Centrio malls. If you happen to be around Cagayan de Oro City, please take time to view the paintings and photographs at the mall and explore the different products from every towns at Capitol ground which is few meters away from the mall.

Are you ready guys? Let's get started!

The purpose of such painting exhibit is to feature the wonders of Misamis Oriental. It has reflected the colorful lifestyle of people living in the rural areas of Northern Mindanao particularly Misamis Oriental.

This Lubi painting series of Sir Rhyan Casiño and the paintings of the rest of the artists depicted the booming Coconut Industry of the Philippines.

I have personally met and known sir Rhyan and I known when it comes to making paintings either acrylic or oil paint. He loves to paint the background first and then proceeds with his subject.

One the first and second paintings, you could observe that he is using colors that are beside each other on the color wheel (yellow and orange). Meanwhile on the last painting, he chose colors that complements with each other.

Also, it is noteworthy how that these colors are able to catch your eyes. This would do well in the dining room and kitchen.

This photoset on the other hand are also coconuts. If you do not know, kuyamis refers to the soft parts of coconut.

On the left painting, the artist used earth color. Earth colors are very pleasing to the eyes. Brush technique has also been used on this one.

The one on the left on the other hand used earth color for the coconut. To make it more attractive, the artist added another element which is the sea. This is actually a typical setting here in the philippines. There are lots of coconut trees and even palm trees in beach resorts. The painting seems to be smudged as well which makes it interesting to look at.

Meanwhile, both of these paintings has related subjects. The artists projected some people who are working in the Coconut Industry. Did you know that one of our top export industry in the Philippines is the Coconut industry?

On the left painting, the artist used dark tones (but not that super dark tones) except on the upper left corner to create an illusion. The artist basically used a lot of white paint as well and mixed it with flesh and brown. If you can observe, it has somewhat used a sepia tone. Red and blue has also been used on the clothes of the woman to make her standout a bit.

On the right painting, the artist also used the same tone but this time it is a bit warmer with more greens and yellows. This is actually a strong painting as it tried to show to us that some parents tend to work hard and they bring their children at their work place which is dangerous.

These two paintings had been put together because it has lots of elements in the photo but being the coconut as the central theme as well.

On the left painting, I just love how the artist made the painting portrayed the liveliness and playfulness of the youth. It has also depicted the life in the rural area. Some teenagers still opt to go outside, have fun under the sun, and play with friends.

Anyway, on the remaining photos below re few of the works of Mr. Felix Jesus Meimban. He has the most numbers.of works in the exhibit. I should say it is easy to point out because he has a certain art style which makes his works easily identified from the rest.

Generally speaking, his artworks are very warm although he used different colors. Differe tones of red can be seen.

The following paintings also portrayed the lives of our farmers. You can feel how comfortable they are no matter how others label their lives as frugal.

This is also a great painting sets as these paintings are able to embed in canvas the colorful culture of farmers. Another thing is that it is an eye opener that we only have few farmers left. They are the backbone of our society as they feed us with their labor. And sadly, the average age of farmers (as how one personnel from Department of Agriculture said it) is fifty years old plus. This is because most of those who took up Agriculture and Agriculture-related courses opt to work overseas because they are well compensated there.

I choose this one as the last painting set as it showcases the unique beauty of women who work in farms and live in rural area. There is more to their pretty faces and that is their trait of being hard-workind and not afraid to toil under the sun.

Most of these women as well had been married at early age. They had been then focused in their families instead on themselves first. Such selfless people.

All in all, I had been amazed by the artworks. I was not able to feature everything on the exhibit though because my phone was running out of battery. I used my Samsung J7 Pro by the way to capture these amazing paintings.

Which of the following paintings do you like the most and why? Are you also amazed by these works? Comment down below so that we could share our insights.

Have a great day dear readers and Steemians!
