Cetaceans are extraordinary animals. From the campaigns to stop their extinction, the world began to take special attention on them. Even today we discover a lot about their life. Details that reveal more and more of their majesty and the value they have as part of the terrestrial sphere. They have inspired many stories that have been told in the different forms art takes. Today I share a watercolor painting of a humpback whale made to give cover to one of those stories contained in the poem in spanish Canciones de ballena that I published a few days ago through here.
First, I made a pencil sketch in a white opaline. I opted for a design with some slight touches of fantasy. Then I added a bright blue to the body of the whale. I put yellow details on the tips of the mouth, fins and tail. I painted spiral details throughout his whole body. Finally I scattered touches of purple blue and lime around the mammal. As a touch of movement I painted silhouettes around his body simulating water.
At the end, I scanned the image and edited it slightly in Pixlr Online Chrome Application
