My painting version of my mom’s 40 year old embroidered art. And included a step by step process
“The Tiger”
Finally finished both paintings, this painting was inspired by my moms 40 year old embroidered artwork, its been with us for that long here is my moms original artwork
I will be framing this same as how she made hers and this will be with my family for a very long time, hopefully my kids can learn to sculpt this someday. Mom already saw this and was so happy about it she says tha it looks more lively, but i told her that i think her original still stands out as hers is a more delicate and difficult process. But overall me and my family is very satisfied with the final results
Before i begin the process hope you can check out my previous post regarding this painting
Day # 1 progress painting of “The Tiger”
Day # 2 progress painting of “The Tiger”
Also check out its partner that i painting and finished at the same day as this “The Black Panther”
Day # 1 progress painting of “The Black Panther”
Day # 2 progress painting of “The Black Panther”
Day # 3 Final progress painting of “The Black Panther”
Now here is the process of my painting from start to finish:
i always start my painting using my template of the flower of life and use a thick gesso to form the embossed flower of life and then did a light sketch of the subject
then i covered the whole canvas with linseed oil which makes the canvas wet for very long hours, that ways its easier to blend the colors, i used Phtalo blue for the skies
started to work on the backgroun, no need to really put too much effort on it, just a simple glacier mountain and a waterfall. And i also painted the landscape where the tiger is crawling up to, its just the first layer so anything works and its ok to make happy accidents by this point
working on my first layer for the tiger and i used burnt sienna burnt umber and yellow ochre and ivory black for the tiger
i just outlined the whole tiger and all its stripes and its ok to use flat black on this, after this its just blending the color and be surprised that shading comes automatically
just by using a clean brush, blend all the colors and the strokes and direction for the fur is important, and start working to make dtails with the eyes, any adjustment to the size can be added in this step
while the canvas is wet, i used titanium white with the clean brush i was using and focus on the lighter areas and also the fur in the tigers cheek
now for the serious part, the extending fur, used pure white and a detail brush, just one strokes, i also thinned out the paint, remember thin paint stick on thick paint👍🏻
then just keep on shading and keep blending the light and dark part, and making more highlights where the light touches
lastly painted the flower of life symbol with gold acrylics. And thats it, im very satisfied with the end result. Perfect combination with my black panther painting
thank you for tuning in hope you learned something from it, my mom was so pleased to see this and said that its look so lively, and im glad that i found a way to remake with my newly developed skills, with this wonderful 40 year old masterpiece by my mom.
Thank you for viewing my artwork process!
