In Sepia. A Fanart.
Sepia-toned images are a personal favorite of mine. They have a certain appeal that's simply indescribable. Sepia tones remind me of old times (the 19th century kind) and sunsets.
The first success in sepia-toned photography back in the 19th century apparently spurred on the birth of modern photography. Fun fact: the term sepia originated from a genus of common cuttlefish, sepia.
Some of you probably already know that I am a huge fan of Naruto. As such, drawing Naruto fanarts is an utmost favorite, and In Sepia is one of them.
The title. If I remember correctly, I entitled the drawing as such exactly because of the reason stated earlier: it reminded me of old times and sunsets. I didn't desaturate, so it isn't exactly sepia sepia, if you get what I mean.
200+ PSD layers. After more than two years, I accessed the PSD file of this drawing. I cringed really bad after seeing the messy, untitled layers that were nearly around 250.
No tablet? Mouse is your best buddy. I have a really good tablet that my big sis @arrliinn sent me as a gift way back when I was about 15. It still exists and still works fine... except the stylus. I think the tablet was only 3 months old when I dropped the stylus, the tip broke, and the pressure just wouldn't work properly any longer even after calibrating. Thus, I resort to the next best thing - the mouse.
Adobe Ps pen tool works like magic. And not only Photoshop's pen tool, even Paint Tool SAI's linework layer works like magic. They were very no-tablet-just-mouse/touchpad friendly. I learned to digitize my drawings even with just the laptop's touch pad, SAI, and Photoshop beside me.
It took me six months to complete the drawing. I wasn't fully invested in drawing this; the semester then was so hard - I had minimum 12 units of hard core physics then and I had to focus. The PSD file sat on my computer for a long time before I even had the heart to continue.
Backgrounds just aren't for me. I realized that backgrounds just really aren't my thing. 😂 I had to paint most of the background manually - I mean, I had to paint them by mouse (in this drawing, the laptop's touchpad)! It was tedious, but I guess, it was all worth it in the end.
200+ layers? That is amazing :O
I prefer to draw the whole thing on my phone... lol. I do not know what I'd do without it.
How do you draw with a mouse? I find it so hard to do 😟
Yes, 200+ layers. 😭 It's been a long time since I last opened the PSD file, and I was shocked to see that it was that much. LOL.
The pen tool in Photoshop that can be used for vector/vexel arts makes it easier even with just the mouse. 😊 You can even use the pen tool for the lineart. It's pretty cool - there are a lot of tutorials on youtube. I learned from them hahaha.
On another note, my Gintama fanart is still sitting lonely on my computer. 😭😭 Still just the base sketch. I might have to rewatch a few episodes to be motivated lol.
I love learning stuff on YouTube too... it's better than school 😂
Maybe you should watch the Benizakura arc for inspiration 😂 or Battle on Rakuyou arc. I hope you are gonna add the both of us in it... posing with Yorozuya like bosses 😂😂😂

Aha! You broke the stylus! :D
Aha! I did! 😂😂😂
Woops. 😂 How's the community engagement going?
Down to my last 100 comments. Need to complete it today. 😅
Ooooh! That's still a little too much! Good luuuck!
Yes it is... Cant quit now... almost there to the finish line! ;-)
Damn 6 months. I have pictures in my art book that I haven't finished in like 2 years. lol. That tablet though. :(
Yes, the tablet. 😂 Needless to say, my sister wasn't amused (this was the first time she heard about the tablet LOL).
Wow! Beautiful!!!
Thank you @djynn! 😉
You're welcome :)
I guess you slow down your laptop right? Hehehe... Imagine, 200 layers. What are you animators? Well... you are.... hehehehe... i hope i got that talent also, suddenly i just can not focus because of my situation... keep it up ate @erangvee
Surprisingly, hindi. HAHAHA. Nagulat nga ako at kinaya pa ng laptop ko. (Nakaabot ako ng 800 layers minsan hindi pa din nagka-crash.) Amazing laptop.
I commend you for having a really long patience to finish this art. <3 It's worth it!!! And.. I still can't see myself doing digital art... T_T Hahahaha~
^Me, looking back at the amount of patience I had then. Now, I hardly have any. LOL.
That's all right. I was driven with the want to be an animator when I was a kid - reason why I tried to learn dig art. Buuuuut obviously I didn't end up as an animator or professional artist. 😭😂
It's never to late for that!!!! :D I mean, you got the skills... just get your patience back.. hahahaha :P
Wow, this is so amazing! 6 MONTHS for a drawing with OVER 200 PSD layers? That... is one of the most dedication I have seen for an art piece and it is so touching that you put in so much time and heart and soul into this! I'm really inspired by your process GIF! This is such great work.
OKAY NOW TO MAKE SOMETHING EVEN REMOTELY AS GOOD AS YOURS, THAT WOULD MAKE MY YEAR SET. <3
P.S. Followed for more of your motivational works ^^
Hahaha. IKR?! 😂 It took me six months because I was busy with school -- the 200+ layers were just a result of my OC-ness (I wanted it to be easily editable just in case lol). But yes, I wanted to finish it come hell or high water... even if it meant six months. ❤️️ And thank you so much, @pinqo! You probably hae no idea how your words make me so happyyyy. 😭
OK, now I'm very, very, very flattered. Thank you so much! I look forward to your drawings. 😉 Will follow you back, too. 😊
