The carnival of dreams

This is my entry for the drawing contest organized by @monajam. You can find the contest here.

It was a fun contest, is a list of things you must include if you wish to participate: "a bench, trees, flowers, a small wall made of bricks, few swans and a giant ferris wheel that is seen from distance"

First I chose a scenery that could serve as a starting point for the composition. The horizon line is under the bench so it will be very low on the page. I created the background from imagination.

A rough sketch adresses all the different areas of the composition. It is loose to facilitate some fine tuning to come.

I brief study of the light will help establish its source. A single vigorous stroke will suffice for hatching. A crow came to play, I take a snap shot in my mind knowing he may not sit around very long. Sure enough, he’s gone.

So far I have been using col erase pencils by prismacolor. I am adding new colors, most of them from col erase. These are colored pencils you can erase. They are hard and allow for precision work. This is why they are a favourite among old school animators and comic book artists.

I began using my prismacolor premium and I am about 3 hours in. Time to layer some color planes and add some texture. I want to be finished but something tells me I should keep going.

I use my Art Stix and achieve a much needed speed to saturate the drawing using a broader line but also the side of the stix. I also have a blending stick which helps unsaturated areas sing with the white of the paper. I am about to post it. Oop, I forgot the wall.

I use Procreate to make the wall, you can see it on the header. I also used a filter to enhance the contrast and saturation.

I also saw a beautiful sky along the way!
