White Charcoal Original Puppy Drawing-Part 2

in #art8 years ago (edited)

It has been almost a week now since i made Part 1 on this.
I stared this one, but than i had to finish my Cat drawing, which i published yesterday. Now today i had time to finally continue this one. It is only my 5th white charcoal drawing, and my very first on this size. This one will be twice the size of the last one. The previous one was a wolf, which i also have posted some time ago here.
I just love to work with Derwent Pastel pencils. I purchased 6 brand new white charcoal pencils already a month ago, and waited when i could start to use them.
I will post the evolution of this in parts as i have done before. Also in a couple of days i will start my new 60x90cm Dark charcoal work. It has been a month now i think that i made my last one on this size.

Today i continued to draw the nose and i started one eye. What i will do next is: I will draw a little of the other eye, to see the proportions of the drawing. I have outlined the basic shape with simple 3B pencil as you can see in the photos. I used 3B for that, because on the dark paper, it looks kinda bright, but i once tried it with H or 2H pencil, and i couldn't see a thing on it. It is essential not to push hard at the very beginning, because when you will draw over the lines with white pencil, they will show up. I made that mistake when i was drawing my very first work. I made a sketch with very hard 2H pencil, and i pushed it as hard as i would do it on a regular white paper. After that, when i started to draw with white charcoal over it, it showed the lines, and i simply couldn't draw over them or hide them in any way.

This is how much i have made it so far. Working with charcoal can be very frustrating, especially for those who are just starting to explore this art medium. Through the years i think i have developed iron patience. Charcoal is very unpredictable and messy. The good thing is that you cant see your dirty arms when you work with white charcoal!
